DCU Drama presents its first ever student directed musical, Fame, in The Helix this April.
Directed and produced by two DCU students, Stephen Grimes and John Cannon, the show will run from Tuesday, April 1 to Thursday, April 3 in The Helix.
Set over four years, Fame tells the inspiring story of the pain and triumph of star-struck Performing Arts pupils in their quest for stardom.
Featuring an outstanding all-student cast and ensemble, and under the vocal direction of DCU Alumni Éadaoin Kelly and choreographed by Riona Flood and Fiona Shannon, this show promises to be a rollercoaster of emotion and drama, with up-tempo music, stunning visuals, breathtaking dance sequences and raw acting talent.

The Producer - John Cannon
John Cannon, a Physics student in DCU, is this year's producer and is "delighted" to be so.
He started speech and drama at an early age and has acted in many productions including "The Merchant of Venice" In The Helix in 2006 ,"Iago" In The Helix 2007 and Mount Temple Comprehensive's production of "Gregorys Girl" in 2001. He won "Best Performance" at the 2007 One Act Festival in DCU for his role in "I don't blame you".
John started producing shows three years ago with DCU's first pantomime "Babez in Da Hood" alongside Stephen Grimes and has been working in the sound and lighting industry since 2004, gathering valuable theatrical experience throughout the country in venues such as The Helix, The Millbank Theatre, The Olympia and Liberty Hall. He served as secretary of DCU Drama on the 2006/07 committee and worked on the society's last two musicals "Guys & Dolls" and "The Full Monty".
He would like to thank his parents Madeleine and Paul and all his family and friends for the love and guidance they have given him from day one. He sincerely wishes the cast of Fame all the best.

The Director - Stephen Grimes
3rd Year Applied Physics student Stephen Grimes is the director of DCU Drama's production of Fame.
This "drama lover since birth" began acting with Rush Drama Society as a child and is a true DCU Drama veteran, having starred in countless productions and even chairing the society in 2006/07.
A talented actor with an impressive number of lead roles under his belt (including Danny in "Grease" in 2004, Nathan Detroit in "Guys & Dolls" in 2006, Malcolm in "The Full Monty" in 2007, Bassanio in "The Merchant of Venice" in 2006 and Frank Lubey in "All My Sons" in 2005) Stephen is an accomplished director.
He made his directorial debut in 2005 with DCU's first pantomime "Babez in da Hood" and went on to direct and produce the comedy "Iago" in The Helix in 2006. He also produced and starred in last year's pantomime "Back To Neverland".
As chair of DCU Drama, Stephen was responsible for the whole society and organised dozens of events.
He is delighted to be directing "Fame" and wishes the cast and crew the best of luck. He would also like to thanks his family and friends for their continued support.

That was only because DCU isn't equipped with a large Roman amiphitheatre, which is quite plainly our fault Richard
You would have thought DCU Drama could do better...
The lack of curtains brought the whole show down.
