  • Last One Out Switch Off The Lights...

    So it's all over for another year. Most of you seem to have achieved what you set out to achieve. For some of you there is disappointment.

    But here's what interests me - for weeks these results were the most important things in your lives, you were living and breathing them, lying awake at night thinking about them, looking for signs and omens of triumph or disaster.

    Then they arrived, you opened them, and that was that. Either it's Plan A, or you have to come up with Plan B. And you move on. You see the results are not as important as what they lead to - but pass or fail they do lead to something. You move onto the next thing.

    Which is worth remembering next time you're stressing about exams.

    Of course there's one person for whom the exams themselves are all important. But enough about me...

    :))

  • Less Than A Month To Go!!!

    The big day is getting closer. Before you know it it'll be Text/Email/Envelope Day.

    It's weird how we get all superstitious when we're under pressure. I always went to bed in my lucky pyjamas the night before - I don't know why I thought they were lucky as the only memorable thing that every happened while I was wearing them was getting locked out of the house in the middle of winter. But that's another story. I always had hot choc before going to bed, then I'd lie awake until about 6.30. I got up at 7 to wait for the postie (in my day we didn't have MySQA). So by the time he finally arrived I'd fallen asleep on the couch.

    The thing is, it always struck me that the results assume a huge importance over the summer, but are a bit of an anticlimax on the day. As soon as you know yours, you immediately move into What Now? mode. Good or bad, they were never as important as the choices they opened up. Results day isn't so much the end of a story as the end of a chapter.

    The other thing that always struck me was that surprises didn't often happen. You could tell which of your friends had put the work in, and which had spent rather too much time enjoying themselves. Generally, the hard workers got what they wanted, and the others either scraped by or just missed out. And yet every single one slept like a 5 year old on Xmas eve - i.e. they didn't.

    So good luck everyone. I'm sure you'll still go through the same agonies that candidates have always gone through. And in the end, you'll get your results and you'll move on to the next stage.

    At least you've got MySQA to take some of the edge off things on the morning itself. You have signed up, haven't you? And you have remembered to activate your account?

  • It's All Over

    Hi everyone

    Well the exams are all over and I hope everyone feels confident. So what do you plan to do over the summer? Getting work experience is always good, and some extra cash is always good too. Or perhaps you're taking off to sunnier climes? Let's face it that could be anywhere!

    The thing you must o is remember to register for MySQA - AND ACTIVATE YOUR ACCOUNT! I know I keep nagging you about this, but a huge proportion of people who registered last didn't activate their accounts, so didn't get their results by text or email.

    My own plans for summer are to sit right here and keep on at you until you do!

    Hi Natasha

    The simple answer is no, as if you fail nothing will have changed. Except your mood perhaps.

    Hi Jackie

    The school will let you know - the dates depend on what you were sitting: Urgent Appeals (for entry to higher or further education courses) by 20 September;
    Higher or Advanced Higher Appeals by 25 September;
    Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2 and Standard Grade Appeals by 6 November.

    So if you haven't heard, I'm guessing you're waiting for Intermediates or Standard Grade?

    Hi Kellie - I've checked and the Health and Food Tech brief is there now.

    20C Boy - this is more about Uni applications, so you should really go to the UCAS website - http://www.ucas.ac.uk/.

    If your page is blurred you are presumably using Internet Explorer 8. There is a compatibility button on IE8 that fixes the problem - follow the link below and you'll find instructions on where the compatibility button is.
