- “Their songwriting is top notch. Their energy & passion creates a strong delivery.”
- Soul Purpose Magazine (Nov 07)
When Christchurch, NZ quintet Mona Vale Falls decided to go into hibernation mid 2008 to further evolve their Post Hardcore/Rock sound they knew the risks that would come from vacating a live scene where they’ve made themselves known. But they plan on stretching themselves aiming to add an unbridled passion to their new songs & live show. Now their focus is on what lays ahead… Including a new album.
Since the release of their debut EP “A Reference Away, A Departure Towards” (Dec 07) Mona Vale Falls have been working hard to connect with as many people as possible worldwide. With numerous shows already under their belt across NZ in 2008 (including Parachute Festival & a mini North Island tour) they are well on the way to achieving that.
Mona Vale Falls will not be the same band you knew when they return… Are you going to be a part of it?

Spring Update
Hey all! What's up? Thought i'd give you guys a quick update from us...
Not much has been happening except we've been doing some time in the studio recording new songs ('Ruth' + 'Thermohaline') + acoustic tracks. We've got Chucky (Sixlip + Broken Hill Records) engineering this puppy for us + so far so good. We've tracked drums, most of the guitars (Yes Reg + Matt are playing on the tracks) + Malisa is recording Bass tomorrow.
No word on what we're going to do them when they're done but there will probably be another release of some kind.
We're pretty keen to start afresh once it's done though; We want to have that feeling of starting over. I've been working hard on putting material together + it's getting there... Slowly.
Anyways we've got some vids on You Tube from the farewell show so go check them out. We'll keep you up to date from the studio, etc. Aaron leaves for the US tomorrow so look after him you american folk! L8rs...

We Remise! We Discontinue! (Goodbye Reg + Matt!!!)
If you missed out the events of last night we at MVF HQ lost our voices, hurt ourselves, bled everywhere, + hung out with friends to mark the departure of Reg + Matt from Mona Vale Falls.
We'd like to thank Sixlip, The Blackwood Affair, One Left Standing (Who filled in for Beneath The Silence. Get well soon Sophia!), Velocity Scene + everyone who made the show happen. It was great to see familiar faces once again, go check out these bands now!
If you weren't there you missed:
- Aaron + Matt bleeding all over their instruments... Again.
- The jungle gym theatrics + spin kicks... Again.
- The guest vocalists (Thanks James + Josh!)
- "Pass the parcel/microphone"
- The overwhelming sing alongs! (Especially during EXIT + PANIC)
If anyone's got photos or video of the show please let us know! We'd love to make you famous on our page...
Thanks to everyone who has come to a MVF show, helped us out, played alongside us, or even said hello to us! You guys have made this chapter of Mona Vale Falls what it is and we couldn't have experienced such things without your support... We love you guys!!!
Reg + Matt have been an integral part of MVF history (Reg as an original member + Matt since the end of 2006) and we the remaining of MVF wish them all the best with future endeavours!!! (As Matt would say) We're going to miss you guys...
Also congratulations to Matt + his partner Michal on their engagement!
Anyways we have new things in the pipeline for you guys but in the meantime it is with a hint of sadness + a lot of uncertainty that we begin our change... Keep your eyes here for more! L8rs.

The Ending Begins (+ Streetwise Like You Crazy Scarlet)
Hey folks! Who else has been addicted to the Olympics? I missed it yesterday + NZ won 5 medals... Go figure.
Anyways this weekend we broke our hibernation with some live shows. I think it was a long time coming + we were a tad rusty...
Thanks to PRIMAL CHRISTCHURCH for looking after us. We love floor shows! Reg threw in a Spin Kick + i got to test my monkey skills too. Thanks Chucky for doing sound for us at the last minute!
Thanks to STREETWISE SCARLET + LIKE YOU CRAZY! for taking us out on their South Island shows. We have never laughed so hard to any stage banter until then, Streetwise gave you your $10 worth right there. I guess we're too serious of a band to be able to do that... Or maybe it's the fact that i'm not all that funny. GO BUY THE STREETWISE SCARLET ALBUM NOW!!!
The Dux was fun times, their lighting rig was perfect for swinging. Dunedin was fun times too, i managed to climb the speaker stack + managed to fall off it too... + yes there was another Spin Kick. Thanks PETE and STEPH for accom and good times! We love you kids!
For all you folks that didn't make it here's the top 5 highlights:
01) VELVET BURGER - Go buy the GONEBURGER... Yum! (+ yes they have a vege burger too, Malisa tried it)
02) The Maori guy playing songs outside the venue in Dunedin - You had to be there.
03) The lady in the BMW that pulled the fingers at us twice on the drive home from Dunedin - You made overtaking that much more satisfying + funny!
04) All of us owning the toilet in a service station in Oamaru - Aaron close the door!
05) Streetwise Scarlet telling us how their gear got stolen - You should ask them about it sometime.
So we've decided to do a final all-ages show as Reg + Matt's farewell show. The details are coming very soon so be sure to check our page for more info! Also check out their other projects, it's in our top friends list.
Anyways the Olympics are calling me + again i will neglect sleep to do so! L8rs...

Ha, nah I didn't. It's still on the cards, but uni and general life stuff has just got me swamped at the moment, so it's taken a bit of a backseat. But hey, if God's got some kinda lucky break lined up for me, who knows?
Cool man, let me know when those tracks are done and dusted, would be keen to see what some fermentation has done with the already stellar sound you guys had.
Cool man, thanks for letting me know. Keep me in the loop, always keen to hear what you guys (and gal) are up to, whether it be MVF or a new venture. Best of luck bro!
PS And if you ended up started something else, I'd be keen to stick by you with the badge deal we've already got going. So yeah bro, just keep me posted
Heya! Not a whole lot at the moment, I'm taking advantage of the free internet at uni at the moment. Actually, done some work with some other ChCh bands recently (Sunburn, The Red Corner) and one other hopefully soon.
Sure, what's happening?
mint... i hope you guys do aye...
i love your first one
yeah... i thought (most) the bands were tight! exsepcialy comeback kid...
i had a great time...
when are you guys doing another ep/album?
i supose thats like every band though
even with the one im in, theres a huge range fromhaste the day and as i lay dying to stuff like bmth and suicide silence (not a fan myself) to stuff like underoath and saosin and senses fail...
i love all of those bands!
nothing much aye...
cant wait till Comeback Kid tomorrow... i love them so much aye... are any of you guys going?

i dont know why but theres just something about that song thats awesome!!!
you guys rock...
i really love you guys!!!
Mona Vale Falls ROCK
Yeah that's fair enough, I'm gonna have to save for a long time to be able to afford it. Japan would be awesome aswell!
Next year I'm just working, hopefully not still at McD's..., saving up to move to Auckland the year after (not helping myself in that boat by going to soundwave...), either doing the parachute internship or music event management at MAINZ up there.
Any luck finding new guitarists for the MVF?
Yup sure did, definitely going now, just a matter of saving enough money to buy tickets and flights over there. No way I'm missing that many of my fave bands in one place.
The news in my neck of the woods basically just consists of the fact I finish school tomorrow! 13 years of schooling has come to an end. Even tho it is going to suck having to say goodbye to people.
You keen to go to soundwave next year?
yeah Parkway was amazing! was very disapointed with Tainted tho... i guess im just over the whole heavy metal thing. was very happy when Chucky yelled a metalhead for being annoying in the pit.
was talking to camilla just before, apparantly there will be a 2nd announcement for soundwave and underoath is pretty much confirmed! im there for sure.
How have u been recently?
Nah I wish I was, I have to stay home and do tourism, oh joy.....
Parachute line up is pretty sweet, doubt id be going if it wasnt for family force 5 tho, amazing, but the sunday nite worship will be sweet as well. Will I be seein u tomorrow at parkway drive?
Sweet cheers 4 that, just let me know when u can eh.
whats new with me? almost finished school so lookin 4 a fulltime job 4 next year... dont want to end up working at mcd's full time. and also been goin to primal frequently, if it wasnt for u guys that wouldnt have happened so cheers!
what u reckon of the full parachute line up? im ampin for it, cant wait
Rapture Ruckus was incredible, didnt expect such an amazing show, Emenate was cool +my mates brother was in the band and Sunburn of course was amazing.
I did read your blog, sounds awesome! let me know if u do another release, would be keen to get a copy.
Hey if u guys arent back playin live shows by nxt feb/ march, could u possibly ask Mali if she would be keen to play some I am the light stuff at my release party? already have sunburn and the precipice keen to play but would be cool if at least one of u played (seeing how u guys r the feature article.... let me know
Yup sure do, it will be awesome!
went down to samstock in the weekend and saw FLW, wow! they were awesome, had a chat to them and they told me to say hi to u guys as well.
