- We are a non-profit, volunteer organisation, dedicated to promoting free live music of all styles and genres, and at all levels, in Montrose and surrounding areas.
Our goal is to build on the success of the first festival of 2008 and put Angus on the map as a live music destination, ensuring that Montrose Music Festival becomes, and remains, a nationally recognised, and much anticipated, annual event.
We also hope to maintain a presence throughout the year with fundraising concerts, gigs and other events associated with the festival. Please support the festival in any way you can.

MMF Fundraiser Gig - 5th Sep 2009 – The Unofficial Review
Wow, what a great night that was. I can honestly say that no one act stole the show - they were all superb.
To start with, Rachael Baird took the stage. Alone with her guitar, she held her own in the face of temperamental technology. Once it was sorted, she played a professional set, comprising of a nice mix of cover versions and her own material. This was greatly appreciated by the crowd.
Then on came The Tomlinson Brothers, who are an interesting mix of characters. Nevertheless, once they started to sing, they neatly harmonised to backing tracks, played their own tracks and finally ended on a beautiful acapella song. They indeed have three great voices.
Then Joni took the stage for what was to be the first part of her set that night. With her 4 piece band, she played a ballad-orientated set, wooing the crowd with songs old and new. One of the loveliest and saddest songs was “Paper Cuts” which is on her current EP. It went down well with the audience and allowed them to appreciate the breadth of her song-writing talent.
A short break ensued while the near-capacity crowd recharged their glasses and then on stage came The Bs and Cs. Even though this was an acoustic night of music, they still managed to power into their songs. Covering "Sweet Child Of Mine" on acoustic guitars is no mean feat and they carried it off very well. Jenna Morrow vocals are exceptionally strong and she is a very talented singer who is destined to go far.
All of the above acts had been introduced by our MC of the night. It turns out that this MC was indeed Gary Anderson himself, who came on to do his set of his own songs, including those of local poetry set to music. A very good writer he is too.
And finally, Joni came onstage for her other set. Playing rockier songs, she completed the rest of the tracks from her new EP and was equally at home on the piano or the violin. She finished off with “Faded Jeans”, a song that really stretches her violin playing to the limit. She used on-stage instant recording and playback to multi-layer her playing, creating a wall of sound that was of orchestral proportions. As soon as it was over, the crowd were instantly on their feet with appreciation and so she could not leave it there. She then played an encore of a rousing rhapsody that got everyone joining in, a Beatles cover (“Back in the USSR” rather than Montrose!) and then finishing off with “Fisherman’s Blues”, the first song she learnt to play on the violin. What a great end to a superb night.
The talent on stage that night was exceptionally. The Montrose Music Festival will go from strength to strength with that standard musicianship and vocalists behind it.
