  • You Are Cordially Invited

A belated Happy New Year to everyone from Bombskare and once again I’d like to apologise for my unfortunate remarks at The UN. I realise now that Gaza is in fact a real place and not just a fat Geordie with a drinking problem. Sorry. Also there was no blog post at Christmas, although to be fair most of us in the band don’t really celebrate Christmas. Personally, I have nothing against Jesus; in fact he’s one of my favourite fictional characters along with Donald Duck, Frodo Baggins and Joseph Stalin. But come on now; born from dubious parentage, grows up to be a joiner, develops a messianic complex, not to mention a hippy beard and long hair, and ends up nailed to a bit wood. It sounds exactly like Colin. Except for the nailed to a bit wood part. Early days though. Also Colin preaches a slightly different gospel; less focused on the peace and love, more focused on the pain and disaster. Seriously though, we do worship him as our saviour.

However no prayers will save us from the almighty economic catastrophe that the world is facing just now. I’ve heard that Britain could be bankrupted because of the global financial meltdown (turns out the banks had most of our money riding on a horse), and worse; the sterling currency could be finished. Never fear dear reader, help is on hand.

After careful examination of the Scriptures, we have concluded that Ska will save us. It will be the new currency. A clean, refreshing currency, untainted with usury, and much more pleasant on the ears and legs. That’s right, a massive investment of Ska into the economy, to provide some stimulus is the only course open to us. Fuck the IMF, a massive injection of melody and rhythm, but this is no time for half measures, and to that end we propose the long awaited release of our long awaited album. Yes that’s right our launch party for ‘A Fistful of Dynamite’ will be at Studio 24 on Friday the 27th of February. The official release will be at a later date followed by a wee tour of the UK but in the meantime we will be having a celebration with The Amphetameanies, Big Hand and Root System and around five hundred of our closest friends, so come down and by us a drink.

  • So long, and thanks for all the cash.

I’m back at last, from a two-month sex tour around The Congo, and I’m not going to lie to you. I’m very unhappy with my travel agent.

Our first piece of disturbing news is that the other week whilst taking photos for our album cover, Andy accidentally stabbed himself in the chest with a remembrance poppy, making him the latest casualty of the First World War. Damn it, will the killing never stop! Luckily he made a full recovery moments later.

Secondly, unless you’ve been living under a rock on Mars, or read the Daily Retard habitually, you’ll know about the global financial catastrophe that we, in Bombskare, have been predicting for some time now.

In a nutshell, and I’ll keep it simple, the bursting of the housing bubble has led to large losses for anyone who bought assets backed by mortgage payments; these losses have left many financial institutions with too much debt and too little capital to provide the credit the economy needs; troubled financial institutions have tried to meet their debts and increase their capital by selling assets, but this has driven asset prices down, reducing their capital even further. Simple really.

Unfortunately it’s not all entirely good news. The collapse of the global financial system has had a rather disturbing and unsettling unintended consequence. It looks like the government may have to nationalise our band, Bombskare.

How the hell did we arrive at this shocking catastrophe, where we may have to be bailed out by the British taxpayer? Government regulation and management of Bombskare is unthinkable, is what you are undoubtedly thinking? It’s not too farfetched if you think about. Look at the banks for example. Large institutions, bloated bureaucracies, hopelessly short sighted yet vital to the local economy; remind you of anything. Yes, like the banking system, we too are also too big and important to fail, so we will be getting billions and billions of taxpayer cash for being shit at our business. Essentially, you could describe it as the worlds largest ever giro. Thanks for that.

So the bottom line is that we will be releasing our album in February 2009 when the stock market has finished crashing and hopefully the value of the bands shares has recovered. If you have a problem with that, you can email Gordon Brown.

We’ve included some pics from our triumphant headline appearance at the Knockengorroch Festival and some outtakes of our photo shoot. Enjoy.

  • I'm only happy when I'm listening to Ska

Just been listening to some Ska music. Hmmm, potent stuff. It actually gives me the munchies its that good. Yes, sometimes I’ll have two or three Ska a night and just go crazy. I know it sounds like I have a problem but don’t worry, I’ve got it under control.

In the horrific and unimaginable days before Ska, people used to do all sorts of crazy things for entertainment; dominos, ethnic cleansing, jazz. Frankly the mind boggles to think of it. No one knows for sure where Ska came from or how it was created. Some say that Prometheus stole it from the gods. A much more likely possibility is that it was created in the sixties by scientists at NASA who were working for the Pentagon, seeking a cure for Communism. Whichever explanation is correct I’m glad they did because, well, I’m only happy when I’m listening to Ska.

Seen you for the first time on Sat at the Insider Festival. I was part of the security team there. We have to put up with listening to a lot of crap at some of these jobs, but you guys were amazing! Best band I've heard in a long time. The Inspector Gadget cover was pure genius:D
