- The Kick Team are a ministry of Youth For Christ. Started in 2000, with year out volunteers who love football but have a passion to share their faith about Jesus. Since then the team have served both long term in locations and on short term missions all across the UK from the Shetland Islands to Teignmouth and overseas from Granada to Seattle.
Working alongside churches schools and throughout the community the team use football to build relationships and earn the right to share their faith.
The team have consisted of both male and females but have at it's heart a passion to share their faith.

encouragement
it's really important to take as many opportunities as possible to support and encourage each other - hope you're having a great week and not too wet after last nights downpour!
The power of encouragement
'Pleasant words are ... health to the bones.' Proverbs 16:24
Two of the biggest cinema smash hits of the last few years have been the film versions of The Chronicles of Narnia and The Lord of the Rings. But did you know that their authors, CS Lewis and JRR Tolkien, were both professors at Oxford University and were really close friends? Every week they'd meet to eat together and chat about their writing projects. It was Tolkien who encouraged Lewis, who was a full-on atheist, to explore Christianity, ultimately leading to him surrendering his life to Jesus. Later, it was Lewis who encouraged Tolkien to continue writing fiction and to seek publication. If they didn't keep on encouraging each other through thick and thin the world wouldn't have received the gift of some of the greatest stories ever written. Everybody needs to hear words of encouragement. The Bible says, 'Pleasant words are like a honeycomb, sweetness to the soul and health to the bones' (Proverbs 16:24 NKJ). Everyone who receives encouragement, be they young or old, success story or dropout, famous or totally unknown, is changed by it. Celebrated author Mark Twain once said, 'One compliment can keep me going for a whole month.' A word of encouragement from a teacher can turn the course of a pupil's life; a word of encouragement from a leader can inspire a person to reach their potential; a word of encouragement from a friend can swing a decision from giving in to going for it.

'self service!'
'The integrity of the upright will guide them...' Proverbs 11:3
The nights are fair drawing in! The clocks have changed and it’s all downhill until late December – well hardly but it is dark early!
Hope you’ve not got the winter blues, and are enjoying what God has in store for you this week.
This is a challenging message but one we need to hear, particularly in our me first, get what you can culture – taking a stand and being different isn’t always easy.
Pizza Hut happy-hour, you know the score! You pay your pennies and from that moment on, it's all about you and how much double-crusted pepperoni and pineapple you can push through your face. After all, waiters are for wimps; it's so much simpler cutting out the middle man and digging your own greedy little mitts into the feast. If only life was a free-for-all-buffet where you could forget about everybody else, and reach your grubby little hands into what you wanted, no questions asked. The frightening thing is, for many of us, that's how we are. We don't listen to the quiet kid at school because we're too busy making ourselves heard. We don't care whose feelings we tread on so long as we're feeling on top. Or we don't volunteer to help clean the church up because we think someone else will do it. Putting yourself first is not God's way. Getting what you want and forgetting the rest of them maybe OK in Pizza Hut, but it's not a good way to live your life. The Bible says the opposite in fact: '...Do not think of yourself more highly than you ought, but rather think of yourself with sober judgment...' (Romans 12:3 NIV). 'Humble yourselves, therefore, under God's mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time' (1 Peter 5:6 NIV). So, forget 'self-service' and start 'serving others.'

'the church!' discuss
There are many discussion topics and issues that can create a lot of heat and not always light, one of these is the ‘church’. I’ve copied in what ‘Tozer’ thought, bear in mind he wrote in the 19th Century – let us know what you think.
Hope you’re having a great week.
Tozer reflects on the Church
The greatest event in history was the coming of Jesus Christ into the world to live and to die for mankind. The next greatest event was the going forth of the Church to embody the life of Christ and to spread the knowledge of His salvation throughout the earth.
That the Church did not perish was due entirely to the miraculous element within her. That element was supplied by the Holy Spirit who came at Pentecost to empower her for her task. The Church began in power, moved in power and moved just as long as she had power. When she no longer had power she dug in for safety and sought to conserve her gains. But her blessings were like the manna: when they tried to keep it overnight it bred worms and stank. So we have had monasticism, scholasticism, institutionalism; and they have all been indicative of the same thing: absence of spiritual power.
If we are to advance, the Church must have power; she must become formidable, a moral force to be reckoned with, if she would regain her lost position of
spiritual ascendancy and make her message the revolutionizing, conquering thing it once was:
• We need spiritual energy of sufficient voltage to produce great saints once again.
• We need a spiritual unction that will give a heavenly unction to our worship, that will make our meeting places sweet with the divine Presence.
• We need that divine afflatus which moves the heart and persuades the hearer to repent and believe in Christ. It is not eloquence; it is not logic; it is not argument. It is more penetrating than thought, more disconcerting than conscience, more convincing than reason. It is the subtle wonder that follows anointed preaching, a mysterious operation of spirit on spirit.
AWT in Paths to Power – taken from The pursuit of God, The pursuit of Man – devotional readings A.W.Tozer compiled by Edythe Draper.

Smells and shadows
'IN THE SHADOW OF HIS HAND HE HID ME.' ISAIAH 49:2
After visiting the Balkan region of South-eastern Europe, reporter James Creelman wrote, 'I learned that the world's supply of rose oil comes from the Balkan Mountains. The thing that interested me was that the roses had to be gathered during the darkest hours. Initially this seemed to be a relic of superstition. But as I investigated I learned that 40% of the fragrance disappears in the light of day.' Do you want to make a difference in the world? Well, God wants your life to be really smelly (check out 2 Corinthians 2:14-16) and you'll need to let God work with you in the shadows before you come into the spotlight. Before the prophet Elijah called down fire from heaven in front of the evil pagan priests on Mount Carmel, God told him to go and hide himself at a brook known as Cherith (1 Kings 17). The country was in a mess and people were dying but Elijah needed to sit tight in this craggy Nowhereville until God said the time was right for him to go and confront the King. Stories like this make us think differently about being in the shadow, don't they? Like Elijah you need to learn to embrace the shadows, enjoy the sidelines, to discover God and grow in them, then stride out confidently with something to say that's worth listening to!

'ouch' the Scottish exam results landed today - this may have come as a pleasant suprise to some - great, but it may have shocked a few more. If you or someone you know suddenly finds themselves in a 'oh no what i am going to do now situation!' what about a gap year - you could use your gifts and talents and gain experiences you could never have imagined or thought possible. Check out www.yfcone.com for more info and remember the truth in Jeremiah 29 v 11 For I know the plans I have for you," declares the LORD, "plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.
Hi, hope the summers going well, of course if you’re down south the holidays have just started. Well whether you’re at Imagine, Soul Survivor New Wine or sunning yourself on some beach somewhere I hope you’re having fun.
This week’s thought is a bit random but it’s got a good message, so apologies if you’ve got an allergy to feathers!!
Flying in formation
'LET US NOT GIVE UP MEETING TOGETHER.' HEBREWS 10:25
Geese. They flap around with their long bandy necks, honking (ie making a loud noise; not a smell!) What could we ever learn from a goose? Well chew on this: Every autumn geese fly south to where the climate is warmer. But they don't just set off in a random flappage of feathers, they fly together in a 'V' formation. Geese know that to complete the long trip, they have to fly united. Air waves created each time a bird flaps its wings provide uplift for the one behind, conserving its energy and enabling it to double its flying range. A goose flying solo could never complete the trip but in formation the youngest, the oldest and even the weakest get there. In other words, they do as a team what they could never do alone. When the Bible says, 'Let us not give up meeting together... but let us encourage one another,' it's saying, 'Stay in formation! Enjoy the uplift!' Christians aren't meant to fly solo, whatever their calling, gifting or maturity. We're all part of Team Jesus, created to fly as a unit with other believers. Sometimes a goose will go off alone and find itself adrift. Before long though its wings become heavy from exhaustion and it loses altitude. There's only one thing it can do; get back with the group. How about you? Are you flying in formation today?

I've come too far to turn back! 21 Dec 2007
'IF THEY HAD BEEN THINKING OF THE COUNTRY THEY HAD LEFT, THEY WOULD HAVE HAD OPPORTUNITY TO RETURN' HEBREWS 11:15
Any pilot will tell you that there's a point of no return. When you reach the end of the runway there's nowhere to go but up. It's fly or die! In Hebrews 11 you'll see a list of totally normal people who did some mad and crazy things because even when they were going through the hardest times imaginable, they stuck to their vision. If you never look back, going back is not even an option. When you decide to follow God not everybody will be happy about it. Your vision could be their nightmare. Your success could prove all things they said about you wrong or remind them of the vision they abandoned. Usually the hardest place to follow your vision is at home. There are always so many people keen to remind you of what you used to be like and they're often unwilling to believe you can change! In order for God to move us on, the first thing he does is to make us uncomfortable. Until your faith factor is bigger than your fear factor you won't move! If you're at all comfortable, settled and content, don't expect God to give you more; you're not ready for it. When you start taking risks you'll pray like you've never prayed and stay as close to God as possible because it's all you've got. There's nothing like that sense of feeling frustrated and boxed-in to get your full attention on God. Bottom line: when you decide, 'I've come too far to turn back,' you'll start to see God's hand at work in your life!
