  • Slumdog Millionaire - directed by Danny Boyle

Having swept the board at all the prestigious awards ceremonies, including the BAFTA’s (The British Academy of Film and Television Awards), I was sceptical that Slumdog Millionaire could possibly live up to the hype. However, this was possibly one of the best films I have ever seen, and that is no exaggeration. Set in Mumbai, the film is funny without being stupid yet poignant and topical. Some scenes make for uncomfortable viewing, but this adds all the more to the harsh realities Boyle is portraying. A truly excellent film, worthy of each and every accolade bestowed upon it.

  • The Virgins - Teen Lovers

This track opens promisingly with an 80’s sound – very poppy and upbeat. However, once it gets going, it’s a little disappointing. Not a bad track, but nothing spectacular either. Not particularly memorable – the vocals are mediocre, and I fear this band may get lost amongst similar sounding, already established bands.

  • Laura Izibor - Shine

A catchy, upbeat wee number from singer/songwriter Izibor. This track has a warm, summery sound, and after a few listens I guarantee you’ll be singing along with the chorus! Izibor has a rich, soulful voice – not dissimilar to Corrine Bailey Rae. One to watch out for!
