About Me

Me, Myself, and I
The Stax-Volts were formed in 2005, with Bigface D'Arcy (vox/guitar), Azrael Hawke (hammond organ/guitar), & Pat Duggins (drums). After a one-off gig near Stamford, Duggins quit the band under a cloud after dropping a drumstick during a massive guitar solo.

In 2006 the Stax-Volts re-formed in Leeds and recruited a new drummer, Dr Lars Strindberg, and bassist Rory Beckenpacker. Neither of these woeful musicians lasted long and were unceremoniously sacked by text message.

The band's current line-up includes Joel Scintinelli on bass, and Jack Detawney on drums. However, original members Azrael and Bigface have fallen out - only to enter their most productive phase ever (despite not being on speaking terms). Therefore the vocal contributions have occasionally been laid down by Azrael

  • The Packhorse Gig

Bigface didn't carry any kit as he was knackered from carrying the fucking band.

  • 2nd Gig

24th April @ The Packhorse. This was slightly better organised than the Primrose debacle, but only slightly better attended - this time by a swarm of semi-angst ridden, disillusioned students who baulked at having to fork out the entrance fee of a quid.
Ryan Shirlow & The Bloody Mary(s) came on and gave an energy filled set of turbo-folk punk-skiffle numbers to deafening applause from the handful of spectators.
We followed up with a blistering set of covers and originals that nearly received a standing ovation, except without the standing part. Luckily we were sober this time...
Many thanks to Bigface for carrying no equipment whatsoever to/from the gig.

  • 1st Gig

Our first gig took place at the Primrose on the 18th April. Also playing was some dude with a keyboard singing power-ballads, followed by probably the worst singer-songwriter I have ever heard mangling old favourites, after him came the Latchicoes, then the only good band of the night: D-Koy, and lastly came the Stax-Volts! We sounchecked at 6.30pm and came on stage at 11.30pm, which equals 5 hours of drinking... We played like shitting dogs.
