    • Anyone got an easy answer?

      Hi all,

      I've been asked to write an article looking at ethical dilemmas and how we make our decisions in life. I got to reading this book which said there are 3 basic ways of solving a dilemma:

      1. Chose the way which results in the greatest good for the greatest number
      2. Chose the 'virtuous' way- the way that 'feels' right to you
      3. Follow a set of rules that tells you what to do i.e. the law, the Bible, a contract etc.

      They all have their merits.... but what one would you chose? Why?

      Let's give an example. You got a friend who is taking drugs. Do you go to the police, teachers, their parens. or do you let them get on with it? Are they harming anyone else? Could it escalate? What is your responsibility as a friend?

      Do any of the models set out above help you in your decision, or are they all flawed?

      Well, I'm not sure there are easy answers- but maybe you think I'm being stupid and missing something obvious- let me know!

    • Relevent or Real?

      Thanks for all those who read and posted on by last blog.

      Thought I'd follow it up with some thinking from another book I was reading the other day. It basically said that young people nowadays don't care if something is relevent to their lifes, as long as it is real and authentic. It got me thinking as to whether or not that was true?

      Are you more likely to listen to someone who can speak with relevance i.e. knows where you;re coming from, knows about the stuff you're going through or someone who has reality to them, an authenticity i.e. they're in a completely different place to you socially and culturally but what they say comes out of the reality of their life experience.

      mmmm...... I'd guess we'd hope for both, but if you had the choice what would it have to be: Relevant or Real?

      Maybe this is a little abstract, but if this is my 'deep thinking' part of my page so if you're up for deep thinking then I'd love to hear what you think,
