- Greenpeace's goal is to ensure the ability of the earth to nurture life in all its diversity.
Greenpeace organises public campaigns:
→ for the protection of oceans and ancient forests
→ for the phasing-out of fossil fuels and the promotion of renewable energies in order to stop climate change
→ for the elimination of toxic chemicals
→ against the release of genetically modified organisms into nature
→ for nuclear disarmament and an end to nuclear contamination.
Greenpeace does not solicit or accept funding from governments, corporations or political parties.
Greenpeace neither seeks nor accepts donations which could compromise its independence, aims, objectives or integrity.
Greenpeace relies on the voluntary donations of individual supporters, and on grant-support from foundations. - Official website

Breaking: As the G8 opens, Greenpeace occupy 4 Italian coal-fired power stations
As the leaders of the world's most powerful nations arrived at the G8 Summit today, over 100 Greenpeace activists from around the world have occupied four coal-fired power stations across Italy, demanding the G8 Heads of State take leadership on climate change.

Rainbow Warrior at Kingsnorth to remember the victims of climate change
Bex is on the Rainbow Warrior just outside Kingsnorth coal plant. Security guards are trying to stop the 30 campaigners on the jetty from breaching security and walking through the power plant to the site of the proposed new Kingsnorth plant so, at the moment, they're holding the commemoration on the jetty, with security guards listening.
Each volunteer is carrying the flag of one of the 30 least polluting countries in the world; the proposed new coal plant at Kingsnorth will emit as much as these 30 countries combined. They're also reading out the evidence given by NASA director James Hansen and Inuit leader Aqqaluk Lynge at the trial of the Kingsnorth Six.
Meanwhile, police boats (a tug, a launch and others) and a chopper are surrounding the Warrior.

Apple releases iPhone 3G’s Environmental Status Report
I don't know what's made Apple post the iPhone 3G's Environmental Status Report but it's definitely a step in the right direction. Maybe Apple Chief Steve Jobs read my blog and decided to act before our scientists got their hands and screwdrivers on his latest phone. While the new iPhone has less polyvinyl chloride (PVC) and Brominated Flame Retardants (BFR) than the original one, Apple has yet to eliminate these and other harmful substances like antimony, beryllium and phthalates.
Making phones without any PVC or BFR isn't a problem for Sony Ericsson and Nokia so why is Apple lagging behind? The iPhone in my opinion is a very stylish handset that scores high on usability and enjoys a cult following judging from the queues to buy it. It's a pity that it's not as green as the others when there's no reason why it couldn't be. Apple has promised to get rid of PVC and BFRs by the end of this year though. Let's see if they fulfil it.0 Comments 471 days

The latest episode of our podcast is all about Heathrow and the plan to build a third runway. James visited the plot of land we've bought on the proposed site of the new runway, while Joss went to find out why organisations from the National Trust to the RSPB are also opposed to the idea. Meanwh...
Greenpeace UK 0 ReplysWe've bought a piece of land slap bang in the middle of the proposed third runway site at Heathrow. We're not going to let the runway get built and we need your help.

The government are delaying the decision on a third runway at Heathrow until January because of a split in the cabinet over the issue. We have little more than a month to make sure the split becomes a chasm the government can't cross.
