St. Andrews 6 Strathclyde 0
Wednesday 28 th October 2009
BUCS Womens Scottish division 2
St. Andrews 6 Strathclyde 0
On a bright and sunny day in St. Andrews Strathclyde were sunk by some dodgy tackles and controversial decisions, shipping six goals as they were bullies off the park by their North East counterparts. Despite good performances in the heart of defence from Player of the Match Julie Farquhar and Steph O’Neill deputising at centre back they couldn’t prevent a heavy defeat on a very frustrating day. With the Glasgow side only a goal behind at half time Strathclyde had a fighting chance of getting something from the game but scoring opportunities were at a premium as St. Andrews’ rough tactics began to take their toll on the away team. Strathclyde did not deserve to go down by six as the home side scored three times in the last ten minutes to make the scoreline look very convincing as the battered and very bruised players in maroon battled on until the final whistle.

Starathclyde 3 RGU 6
Wednesday 21st October 2009
BUCS Womens Conference Cup Pool 2
Strathclyde 3 Robert Gordon 6
M. Keating 32
Barnes 54
Farquhar 71
Robert Gordon made the long trip down from Aberdeen for the second time in a fortnight hoping to avenge an opening league defeat at the hands of Strathclyde. RGU started this cup tie brightly and put the home side under early pressure. The danger was apparent with Strathclyde struggling to get the ball out their own half. RGU took the lead after 22 minutes and promptly doubled their lead with Strathclyde still reeling from the opener. The home side slowly began to find their bearings in the game, Michelle Keating reducing the deficit 10 minutes later but as Strathclyde got into their stride and began to threaten the RGU goal the Aberdeen side struck a bitter blow, regaining their two goal cushion right on half time. With the team under pressure and trailing by two goals Strathclyde made two substitutions and reshuffled the pack at half time. The Glasgow side started the 2nd half much brighter and started to trouble the RGU defence. The pressure paid off when Strathclyde scored 10 minutes into the 2nd half through Ciara Barnes. The Aberdeen side once again started to pull away and scored against the run of play. Strathclyde refused to give up and gave themselves hope of turning the game around when Julie Farquhar scored with 20 minutes remaining. As Strathclyde pushed for an equalizer they began to leave gaps at the back and were punished by RGU who scored two late goals to end the game as a contest. Despite a late valiant effort by the home side, RGU deserved their win although the scoreline flattered the Aberdeen side.
Myers, O'Neill (Barnes 45), Farquhar, McLean, McIntosh, Smart (McCreath 45), N. Keating, Scott, M. Keating, Oman (Girvan 60), McGarty

Strathclyde 4 Robert Gordon 2
Wednesday 7th October 2009
Strathclyde 4 RGU 2
Farquhar 36
Barnes 72
McGarty 78, 83
With some new players in the ranks Strathclyde were looking for some time to settle into the match together in this opening league encounter. This was a luxury not granted to them by RGU as the away side took an early lead after 10 minutes with a scrappy goal. Strathclyde began to come together as the first half wore on with some good play just lacking the final product. It looked like it could be a frustrating afternoon for the Glasgow side but their perseverance paid off when Julie Farquhar equalised from a Natalie Keating corner. The teams went in level at half time but RGU were always looking dangerous on the break and could have punished Strathclyde but for some woeful finishing. Early in the second half RGU took advantage of a dubious offside decision to regain the lead. Strathclyde were not in the mood to come away from this opening fixture empty handed and as they settled into the second half their pressure paid off. In a devastating 10 minute period Strathclyde took control of the game, equalising through Ciara Barnes then taking the lead for the first time in the match with a quick fire double from Arlene McGarty. Natalie Keatings corners again causing havoc in the RGU defence and Julie Farquhar also picking up an assist. The home team were not going to relinquish control of the game with some fine defensive play and good goalkeeping preserving their lead to see out the game. After a slow start Strathclyde took control and recorded a convincing opening victory to get the season off to a great start.
