Me, Myself, and I
St Johnstone Football Club, also known as ‘The Saints’, were founded in 1884 and are a Scottish football club based in Perth. The name was derived from St.John's Toun' - the ancient name for the city of Perth.

The 'Saints' played at Muirton Park Perth until moving to the current stadium, McDiarmid Park in 1989.

On 2 May, 2009, Saints beat Greenock Morton 3-1 at McDiarmid Park to clinch the First Division title and a return to the Premier League after a seven-year absence.

  • DEREK PRAISES PLAYERS FOR FIRST WIN

A delighted Derek McInnes admitted that yesterday’s performance didn’t reach the level of previous SPL games but it mattered little as Saints secured their first win of the season with a 2-0 win at Hamilton.

“It was probably our least polished performance of the season” admitted the Perth gaffer, “but I’m not going to be too critical of display particularly given the conditions.

“The result was mammoth and I am delighted for players and fans – in terms of working hard and digging out the result the players deserve great credit.”

Del said the timings of the goals helped coming as they did right at the end of the first half and then just six minutes before the end of the game and he praised the ability and confidence shown by defender Danny Grainger who capped an impressive opening couple of months for the club with a great striker.

“I think Danny will struggle to score a better goal than that – particularly with his right foot.” said Derek

  • UNLIKELY LADS GIVE SAINTS FIRST WIN

Saints have picked up their first win of the SPL campaign thanks to a deserved 2-0 win over Hamilton Accies at New Douglas Park this afternoon.

On a blustery afternoon weather-wise the game never hit any heights in terms of quality but that will matter little to Saints players, fans or management this evening as they reflect on a hard earned and deserved win.

Steven Anderson opened the scoring for Saints on the stroke of half-time when he headed home from close range after Martin Hardie had headed a Liam Craig corner kick goalwards and that advantage was doubled six minutes from the end when Danny Grainger provided a great finish from edge of the box with his ‘wrong’ right foot after Saints had broken quickly with Collin Samuel and Chris Millar involved in the move.

  • SAINTS READY TO MAKE AMENDS

It may only be 48 hours since the league defeat at Easter Road but preparations for the return visit to Hibs, in the 3rd round of the Co-Operative Insurance Cup are already more or less complete.

The players trained yesterday (Sunday) and today used the club’s video analyst to pick over the bones of the 3-0 defeat.

Manager Derek McInnes told the Saints Official Website this afternoon “ I think it is ideal that we have a midweek game to get Saturday’s result out of our system. The fact that it is against Hibs again is coincidental. We did lots of stuff well on Saturday and it’s clear where we have to improve. In the past when we have had a poor result we have always reacted well and we are looking for the players to make amends in the cup tie.”

Defender Stuart McCaffrey (pictured in a tussle with Derek Riodan on Saturday) trained this morning but it will be tomorrow before a decision is made on whether his head wound sustained in the closing minutes of Saturday’s game will prevent him from playing.

Filipe Morais also trained today as he attempts to get over the effects of last week’s virus and , again, it will be a late decision whether he is involved.

Tomorrow’s match has a 7.45pm kick off and admission to the cup game will be priced at £15 for adults and £10 concessions (Under 18s, over 65s and students with a valid matriculation card).
