• Danyl Johnson leaves X Factor 2009

  Last Saturday night saw our four remaining contestants singing their hearts out, desperate to impress the nation. Now last night it was time to discover who had done enough to see them through to the last stage of the competition and, in the true X Factor style, welcome a few famous friends to the show…
  Kicking things off with the traditional group performance, the last singers standing delivered another Michael Jackson classic with Wanna Be Startin’ Something which, rather aptly, turned into Rihanna’s Don’t Stop The Music. With the penultimate vote off lurking just round the corner the final four danced around the stage with infectious energy all too aware that when the music stopped it could signal the end of one of their last performances. But before Dermot could reveal the lucky final three it was time to announce the arrival of the first guest artist, Lady Gaga. The queen of kook herself to take to the stage and went on to give the finalists a demonstration in eccentric entertainment. Dressed in the finest transformer chic the pop princess delivered her latest single Bad Romance from the middle of a giant bath tub, apparently stolen from Simon’s dressing room, surrounded by what appeared to be a troop of out-patients. Next came a pop legend from a dynasty of musical talent. Last Saturday night the contestants paid tribute to her brother, she’s a superstar in her own right, it was time to welcome the one and only Janet Jackson to The X Factor stage. Singing and dancing like only a Jackson can to All For You and Make Me, Janet proved she’s more than still got it! Finally, without further ado, it was the moment we’d all be waiting for and as Dermot began to read out the names of those going through to the final the judges, the audience and the nation held their breath. First to scream out in relief was Olly, followed by Joe, until there was just one place remaining and two contestants left. The last act through to the final was Stacey, meaning it was the end of the road for Danyl Johnson, who took the news like a gentleman. All that was left to do was for the 27-year-old to sing his goodbyes with another stirring rendition of Man In The Mirror.

• The X Factor Live Semi Final Show: Michael Jackson and Contestant's Choice

  Last night was the quarter final! So here's the list of the quarter finalists who performed two songs in particular order.
  Round 1: Michael Jackson
  Olly: Can You Feel It?
  Joe: She's Out Of My Life
  Stacey: The Way You Make Me Feel
  Danyl: Man In The Mirror
  
  Round 2: Contestant's choice
  Olly: We Can Work It Out (Stevie Wonder)
  Joe: Open Arms (Journey)
  Stacey: Somewhere (from the musical West Side Story)
  Danyl: I Have Nothing (Whitney Houston)
  
  Tonight at 7.30pm, the three finalists will be revealed. Like last week one will be automatically eliminated, losing their chance of competing in next week's final. Who is going home today? Lady Gaga and Janet Jackson perform in tonight's show.

  Just when you thought the show couldn’t get any bigger, take a deep breath and prepare yourselves for two pop-tastic appearances from the latest queen of kook, Lady Gaga and the legendary Janet Jackson... The two industry titans have confirmed that they are to perform live and exclusively tomorrow! The show will feature Ms. Jackson’s only UK performance of 2009 and Lady Gaga’s first ever performance of her latest single Bad Romance on UK television… consider yourselves privileged people because tonight at 8.00pm, it's the semi final! The four remaining acts must perform two songs each, and it will be up to them to really sing their hearts out if they are to be in with a chance of making it to next week's final. The fantastic four will get to perform the songs by the late Michael Jackson and they will also get to sing a song of their own choice.
