It’s with much dismay that I’ve had to put off the release of the new Major Flavours CD in New Zealand until the second quarter of 2010. There are a variety of reasons, but the main ones are that there is a real difficulty with clearances for tracks right now (worse than I’ve ever seen it and I’ve done a lot of these CDS) and secondly is that I just don’t have to time to do it properly.

With a brand like Major Flavours that I’ve built from scratch (pun intended) there is a level of quality control I need to apply at all times. It’s for this reason that I don’t think I could have executed the making of the CD in the time available (usually it takes me about 7 days of solid work to pull it all together) and then there is an issue about touring the CD and the dates I have available.

Long story short, I can’t do it, so I’ll do it next year.

In light of that I thought I’d answer the question that a lot of people ask, and that is ‘what’s my favourite volume?’ It’s hard to differentiate because they all have their unique stories (for me anyway), but, for me, it’s Volume 2 New Zealand.

The reasons are many, and let me just say that Volume 1 NZ is a real close second (esp cos of Kos freestyle and the fact it was the first one).

Firstly Volume 2 rules because of the tracklist. The segment from CNN ‘Invincible’ through to Dilated Peoples ‘Work The Angles’ is the best bit I think I’ve done. Further, who the fuck gets away with putting Gangstarr and DITC on the same compilation as Ja Rule and Black Eyed Peas? LOL. Couldn’t do that shit nowdays (well, actually, you could, but you wouldn’t sell any CDs). Plus the freestyles were mean as, in particular MZRE who went on to become my go to MC on the road.

Secondly, the artwork was awesome. I commissioned Askew to paint the wall in the alley on Symonds Street, and from memory he and Phat 1 did it (my apologies if I got that wrong). The wall captures a lot of things dear to me, most importantly my kids.

Thirdly, there was a bonus disc of all local talent that came free with the CD. It was always my intention to promote locals and this was the first time I got to do it properly.

Lastly, my kids actually appear on the record. Right around ‘The Way I Am’ by Eminem there is a kids voice and a giggle – that was Ethan and Reon. That’s the one aye.

Anyway – Major Flavours 2010 NZ will be out next year, mark my words – Ima make it happen and I always deliver. Here is the tracklisting for that Volume 2 record – seeing that you can’t get it anymore, I might rapidshare it soon, we’ll see…
