Reading, writing and the road...
Hi all,
Apologies for the lack of bloggery action of late, I've been knee deep in several different preoccupations, including moving house, my various duties as an expectant father, reading some superb literature, booking an extensive tour for 2010 and writing the followup to 'Nine Cents From Benelux'.
Moving house was an epic activity, as it always with. I've settled, for now, with my fiancée in Bridport, a small town on the Jurassic Coast in Dorset, which is not only a beautiful place to be, but is also something of an artists' colony, with plenty of songwriters, visual artists, poets, authors and performance artists plying their trade in the locality.
It's proved to be a really invigorating creative experience to leave behind the stultifying air and automobile noise of Bournemouth behind, and head for somewhere quieter, brighter and cleaner.
I've finally been able to sit down and fully take into consideration what has happened in my life in the last two years. Both personally and artistically I've experienced a huge evolutionary process, gaining wisdom and a few scars along the way. It's inevitable that when you're travelling at such speed, you clip a wall or two along the way. Still, life is good and I think a lot of the narrow gaps I travelled through at such velocity are evident in the writing for my next record.
I'm writing all the time at the moment, more so than I have been since the writing cycle for 'I'm Alive' in '05/'06. The new material is a lot more personal and less storytelling than the 'Nine Cents...' songs, and I think it's shaping up to be the most challenging record I've made yet.
I'm not interested in concessions or compromise this time, I'm keen to make a great record which is either loved or hated. I have no problem with dividing opinion, I think it's healthy to do so sometimes.
Don't get too excited, though...the new album won't be along until Summer 2010. Maybe even later if it's not 100% perfect by that point. I'll keep you posted.
I've been reading some brilliant books recently. In particular I've been reading one of very few Kerouac novels I haven't enjoyed before-'Doctor Sax'. Fantastic stuff, as you would expect. Also, I have found deep joy within Haruki Murakami's 'Hard Boiled Wonderland and The End Of The World'. I've been a big fan of Murakami's deep, clear, still and deeply Kafka-esque writing for a long time, in fact since reading his seminal 'Norwegian Wood' years ago, but hadn't discovered 'Hard Boiled...' until my friend, and superb singer/songwriter, Matt Marr lent me the book a while ago.
Thanks, Matt...I really appreciate it. I know I've had the book for a while, and will get it back to you asap!
I am also pleased to announce that I'm going to be playing an extensive UK tour in 2010, starting in mid March, which will initially be a triple-header tour with two friends of mine-and great artists-Alex Hall and Terry Emm.
We'll be visiting a lot of new venues and also playing in a lot of the places which I played with The Mercurymen, and also visited with Marcus Bonfanti and Lotte Mullan this year.
I can't wait to get back on the road, see everyone again, make new friends and play you all my new songs (and plenty of "ol' faithful" numbers from my back catalogue!).
I will blog again soon, but in the meantime take care of yourselves and keep supporting live music!

First run of UK tour dates are done...so much fun!!
Well it's been a great run of shows with The Mercurymen.
First up was The Queen's Hall in Narberth, Pembrokeshire. Our first sold-out headline show, and in a big venue too!
We loved the show, and would like to extend our thanks to everyone who came along, lent their very vocal support and
made us feel like rockstars!
Next was The Rydal in New Milton, Hampshire, which is as close as we've come in 2009 to a hometown gig, and our long-awaited return to The Sage in Gateshead...Another two fantastic nights, which reminded us all why we love doing what we do so much.
So, what's next in line for The Mercurymen?
We're playing The Borderline in London on 18th April with Never The Bride, and we're currently having our album, Postcards From Valonia, remixed ready for a full release in the summer of 2009, along with
which we'll be touring extensively. We've had our appetite for the road piqued by the last fortnight, so nothing will stop us
when we get out for our next major tour.
What's next for me?
I am touring, touring, touring! I am on the road in April and May (full dates are available on this site), and this summer I will be releasing a new compilation album, 'The Best Of Jinder 2002-2009'. I will also be commencing work on an all-new solo album, which will, all being well, be ready for release late this year/early 2010.
See you soon!

Damn it, trying to post a proper comment but Bebo won't let me. Sent you a friend request on your other account so I can message you without it going on your wall lol.
Hope the tour's going well?
Hugs

Hey matey
.
.
Thanks for the heads up on tour dates, great stuff. Would you believe it, on your first date we're moving to Wales!!!! Shame we can't pop to Narberth to see ya!! I'll keep a note of your other dates see if we can make one of them, maybe Nottingham, that's not far
Hope things are going well with you and you've settled in your new home? Things good with us, looking forward to our exciting new life. I've just been in hospital having a pain relieving injection in my spine so fingers crossed things are looking up
I sent you a message on Twitter about getting your music on http://www.blip.fm - it's like Twitter for music, very popular across the globe. Might be worth investigating?
Anyway, you take care, keep in touch and lots of luck for your tour, I'm sure it'll be fab!!!!!
Hugs
Jude xx
Hey there
. Hope you manage to occupy your time and get a few gigs in. Did you get any snow down there?
HAHAHA the moshing comment made me lmao. Yeah well I'm 5ft 8 so maybe height has something to do with it but it's mostly hereditary sadly. It's the disc pressing on the sciatic nerve, pain can be unbearable so sometimes I'm drugged up, all legal so don't worry lol.
I'll check out your mate although I have to say, blues and folksy music is not normally my thing. MM have definitely introduced me to a fab music genre!! I don't have a fave artist as such, well maybe Anastacia lol, it's always the voice and the words for me. That's why techno dance music has NEVER rocked my boat haha. I do like a bit of bass though hence why I love Level 42.
Anyway, I'll stop boring you now
You take care, enjoy your free time cos I can guarantee you, you and/or MM are gonna get very very busy. You've got a huge fan base from what I can see and it's climbing.
Love n hugs
Jude xx
Hey Jinder
.
How are you? Sorry to hear you've another gig cancelled, can't believe how the snow seems to cause us Brits so many problems!!
Well Friday was a crappy day, two pieces of bad news. Firstly saw my surgeon and I may need another operation on my spine. But worse than that, the Birmingham gig was cancelled, gutted!!!!
Yeah please let me know when you or the Mercurymen are playing again. Be nice if you could head towards Manchester, I'm not far from there lol.
So what are you up to with your unplanned free time then? Loved the Forever Friends eCard, hope you get paid everytime someone uses it hee hee. Sent it to my hubby, think he appreciated it
Anyway, take care, off to see what news on our house (trying to sell it/rent it so we can relocate to mid Wales to be nearer to family).
Love n hugs
Jude x
Hey Jinder, no doesn't quite work as well as Hey Jude lol
I know you're a busy guy but you really should read your messages, I've already GOT tickets to see you guys in Birmingham in March lmao. Can't wait actually!!
I'm following you on Twitter (I'm ionacosmetics by the way), bloody hell there's too many social networks to keep up with eh? Twitter is one of my faves mostly for business reasons but it makes a good read finding out what other people are up to. Quite a number of famous people are there too, worth searching, get your name/band known that way too.
Anyway, hope you're taking it easy. Catch up with you again sometime.
Take care
Jude x
Hi Jinder
Thanks for the reply. Bet you're knackered!!!! Well I do use Facebook and I'm a Fan on ya page ha ha. I did post a comment there to say we're coming to see you guys in Birmingham in March!! Bloody hell, I really do sound like a stalker now lmao
You probably don't remember me, I'm the one who met you with my hubby at the MEN when you supported Level 42, I commented on your height ha ha. We were ashamed to say we were running late and missed seeing you guys at the beginning of the concert but to make up for it we bought The Mercurymen CD and I have to say, we're both hooked! As promised, we listened to it in the car on the way home hee hee.
Anyways, I really do wish you guys much success, you deserve it, best band I've heard in a long time.
Take care, sleep well
Jude x
Errrm I think you need to clear out ya comment box cos most of it is spammy crap lol lol. I'm not stalking you honest, just following your instructions on signing up to your fan pages lol. I wanna know, where are some piccies of you guys at the MEN, Manchester? hee hee Jude x
Helloo again, I saw you at the White Hart at Bishops Caundle last night - I was the one sat next to the mad Scottish woman
- and I just wanted to say U ROCKED, it was the best live music I've ever heard! Thanks so much for coming xXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXxXx
hehe sorry but that really tickled me
P.S. Smack my bitch up!!
you up for doing a duet sometime? you could be the next Jim Post
Respect!
