  • AFTER(DARK) GIVES YOU JON HOPKINS, SCUBA AND THE DYING SECONDS AT THE SUGAR CLUB MAY 24TH

    After(Dark) is very pleased to announce that Jon Hopkins, Scuba and the Dying Seconds will play the Sugar club this May 24th for what’s sure to be another explosive night of new talent in Dublin. First and foremost, Jon Hopkins has put his stamp on the electronic scene by working with such talented folks as Brian Eno, Massive Attack, Herbie Hancock, Coldplay and David Holmes. Having grown up in the rave scene his productions have always had a post-club appeal while also producing some stand out brain melters that Aphex Twin would be proud of. His new album will be released through Domino records on May 4th called "insides" preceded by a 12" vinyl and download release of Light through the Veins on the 27th of April, which will feature epic remixes from Ewan Pearson and David Holmes.

    Scuba is the alias of Paul Rose, founder of foundation Dubstep labels Hotflush and Scuba Recordings. His early shows on pirate radio in London led to a close involvement with the beginnings of the scene that became known as Dubstep. The debut Hotflush release hit the street in 2003 and the label has gone on to become one of the most distinctive and innovative Dubstep labels. With a catalogue of over a dozen singles featuring scene leaders such as Shackelton, Benga, DJ Distance, Boxcutter, Search and Destroy, Toasty Slaughter Mob and Vex’d to name a few, Scuba is considered a Dubstep visionary who’s own production explores the nuances of a style still pregnant with possibility.

    Recording together as The Dying Seconds since early 2007, David Cantan and Jack Quilligan are a duo who produce the sort of warm electronic grooves that would have Kraftwerk calling an emergency team meeting in their space station. Drawing influence from a long line in sonic pioneering, from Orbital to Aphex twin, via Radiohead and Death Cab for Cutie, The Dying Seconds have their fingers on a lot of pulses. Previously in indie gang, Vemorana, the twosome took stock of their lot, turned to the cold landscape that is electronic music, and began to slash liberally at the scene with the warmth of assorted instruments: Piano, Trumpet, Violin, Melodica, Mandolin, Guitar and Tunisian Bagpipes to name but a few. The result is a masterpiece of fusion. The sense and sensibility of honest, lyrical rock and roll, and the unforgiving and intense virtual world of beats and bleeps. Think Dntel and Boards of Canada, sharing an afternoon tryst in some pay by the hour motel with Do Make Say Think and Elbow.

  • After(dark) and Rubberband gives you MATTHIAS TANZMANN, JAN 31ST at WAX

    Bio –

    When looking for a place that plays electronic music in Leipzig, at the top of the list you will find the Distillery, the most renowned club in Eastern Germany. For Matthias Tanzmann the Distillery has special importance, as since 1997 he has been resident DJ there, providing the soundtrack for Leipzig nightlife for more than a decade.

    From the beginning Matthias’s musical output has revolved around more than just functional club music, regardless of whether it’s on the turntables or in the studio. Combining subtle arrangements that ride the deep vibes that lie between House and Techno, yet never forgetting the drive for the dance floor - that is what Matthias Tanzmann’s music is about.

    Together with Daniel Scholz he founded Gamat 3000 at the end of the 90’s. With releases on Dessous Recordings, Freude am Tanzen and FM Musik they quickly made a name for themselves in the German House scene. The duo even landed one of the club hits of the summer of ‘99, with the track 'Feeling Love'.

    At a millennium New Year’s Eve party, Matthias and Andrè Quaas (then part owner of the Distillery) decided to start a new label which would offer a premium platform for Leipzig House protagonists and for befriended international producers. With the release of the Gamat 3000 - ”Radio Moon” EP, the Moon Harbour label started along with the new millennium and received extremely positive feedback from the press and clubs alike. Matthias took over as A&R and Andrè now manages the entire administration of the label.

    In 2000 Matthias made his debut as a solo artist with “Rose Garden”. In parallel to the success of Moon Harbour and Gamat 3000, he also rapidly advanced to becoming one of the most booked German House DJ’s. He later became resident DJ at the clubs Flokati (Munich) and Sternradio (Berlin), playing gigs from Moscow to Barcelona, Paris to London. As host of Moon Harbour Label Flights at the Distillery, Matthias has renowned international DJ’s to play, with the likes of Jackmate, Steve Bug, Jesper Dahlbäck and many more playing so far.

    It is not only music that plays an important role in Matthias Tanzmann’s life. In Weimar he studied media design at Bauhaus University. This was a creative extension to his work in Gamat 3000 and his profile as a solo artist. By 2007 he had released numerous EP’s, three mix compilations and remixed tracks by Moby, Wighnomy Bros., Freestyle Man, Marlow, Terry Lee Brown Jr. and Dapayk & Padberg.

    Collaboration with other artists is also very important for Matthias. Together with Steve Bug or Daniel Stefanik, he has produced various EPs, drawing inspiration from the new dynamics and sounds that the collaborative process can create.

    While over the years his tracks have developed from classical Deep House with a European edge, through to Minimal House bordering on advanced Techno, groove and deepness were and still are the essential elements of Matthias Tanzmann’s music. Support on the night comes from David Hargadon & Mark Murphy.

  • After(dark) and Rubberband gives you MISC. (sender records) this Dec 13th at WAX

    There's nothing miscellaneous about these two dudes fom Cologne as they being recording under the guise for sender, resopal and klang records for over ten year now with side project niederflur for m-nus also hitting the mark. The same cant be said for After(dark) and Rubberband as this is our first party together but i cant see that holding back David and Mark from tearing the place up from word go, fuping class i tells ya. Anyway, all roads will lead to Köln after this one me thinks:)
