- You’ve heard of Amnesty International, right? We believe people should be treated like people. It's amazing how often they aren't.
Women are raped as a weapon of war. People are victimised by their own governments. Innocent citizens are locked up for their beliefs.
We believe in the power of ordinary people to achieve extraordinary things. There are over 2 million of us worldwide standing up for humanity and human rights.
This is our space where we share the things that matter to us. Take a look around...

Is your bank funding cluster bombs?
One third of all recorded cluster bomb casualties are children. Yet despite efforts to ban these indiscriminate weapons, 138 banks and other financial institutions continue to invest over US$20 billion in companies that produce them.
Cluster bombs are large explosive weapons that scatter dozens or hundreds of smaller submunitions over a wide area. They cannot distinguish between military targets and civilians. Many submunitions fail to detonate on impact and, like landmines, continue to kill and maim people long after the conflict has ended.
A recent report* finds that UK high street banks are lending or providing investment banking services to cluster bomb producers to the tune of:
– Barclays: US$274 million
– HSBC: US$657 million
– Royal Bank of Scotland (includes NatWest): US$64 million
That could be YOUR cash. And if there’s one thing banks can’t do without, it’s customers: tell your bank to stop this shameful practice once and for all. If you’re not a customer of these banks you can still contact them to let them know that you find their investment in producers of cluster bombs totally unacceptable.

Which of these human rights do you think is most under threat today?
- Freedom of expression
- Privacy
- Access to health services
- Right to education
- Safety

Proposed legislation would impose the death penalty for some gay Ugandans, and their family and friends could face up to seven years in jail if they fail to report them to authorities. Even landlords could be imprisoned for renting to homosexuals.

Hey Molly,
We're sorry you saw such a horrible picture - you're right though, we can't even begin to imagine what it's like to live through such an event, and wish that no one ever had to. If we all work together, we hope we can, eventually, make such human rights abuses a thing of the past. Thank you so much for your support.
i was doing a project on amnesty international in school the other week and when i looked up peter benenson on the internet a picture of dead bodies came up, i clicked on the picture and it was a campaign against the genocide in Darfur,
im only 13 and i thought it was utterly horrible that all these people [some of which are younger than me] had to wittness as their neihbours, friends and their families were murdered for no reason other than their race. keep up the good work, you're close to saving the world!!
You got my support guys !
Keep up the good work...

Hi Mark,
Millions of Amnesty members around the world do care, and regularly make a real difference to the lives of individuals who are having their rights restricted. For instance, we recently protested and campaigned about the arrests of six Gambian journalists: They were released without charge.
In some cases, like these, we make a real difference very quickly, but others may take much longer - Amnesty is an organisation that never gives up and lets governments around the world know that they cannot abuse people's rights, otherwise it could happen anywhere, to anyone.
this sucks human rights my arse,i have my own life to think about coz the goverment dont give a shit about me, why should i give a shit about people thousands of miles away, amnesty like other protest groups are a minority most of the worlds population dont give a shit, you arent in a position do do any thing , its a waste of time...........sorry

Is there anything else we can help you find out? Would love to know how it goes!
can i just say amnesty internation is an amazing organisation and we are all better off for it. they stand up for justice. i joined when i read the diary of anne frank. i was ten when i joined and read the magazines from cover to cover on every edition. i have been a member for nearly 2 years now and am proud of my membership.
i am doing a presentation in school (like Space Dust) and i was wondering apart from the points u gave her is there anything i cud use to make my class mates stop and think about joining without scaring them or using to long words as quite a few are dyslexic. but i wont be horrible becuz thts the sort of thing amnesty campaigns against-we are all one and deserve a chance no matter wat our race religion or gender. and could u give me some links or information on stuff happening to children around the world who is about my age? thanks x
