I AM LEGEND!

You’re lying in bed (delete where applicable) next to your wife, fiancé, girlfriend, boyfriend, civil partner, cuddly toy, blow up doll or no-one. The alarm goes off. You hear the kids, dog, next doors lawnmower go on. It's time to get up and get on with that boring life of yours. The drudgery of the 9 to 5 is eating away at your soul. God you wish your were still at Uni!

Remember the days, remember the nights, remember the glory, remember the agony, remember the Clyde. What would you give to have those days back? Remember waking up in a gutter after a skin full. What about pulling that bird you’d been sniffing around all night only to get her home to find out she just wanted to cuddle. Then there’s he occasional brush with the law or a scuffle that resulted in you pushing someone under a bus and then you rifle through his pockets for cash. God those were the days. What ever happened to those boys that you used to get up to allsorts with? Ah why worry, you’re more mature now and you’re settled down.

You close your eyes and try to grab an extra 10 minutes kip, quite content with your new life as you push closer to 30/40/50* (*In the case of Crossy). But a nagging doubt remains, all is not complete in the life of a young professional. You miss those halcyon days as a semi alcoholic student footballer, the roar of a Stepps changing room after an dubious conquest the night before, the sun shining down on a pristine Show pitch, as you put your hangover aside to launch yourself into tackle after tackle and header after header in order to make sure bragging rights are preserved before you hit the town again later that night....
You were a part of the Strathclyde University Football Club. Deep down, you still are. Once a glamour boy, always a glamour boy!

God you wish you could feel like that again!

You were part of the infamous band known as the Strathclyde glamour boys. You can be once more. The glamour boys of SUFC, were renowned for their football skills, their prowess with the ladies and their legendary banter.

How about another chance to get all of that? How about a chance to strap on those old boots of yours, or to pull out your stinking shinnies again? Then after the Legends Day you can live it up in Glasgow and re-visit some of your old haunts. How about hitting the old clubs, the Garage (you’re too old), The Shack (burnt doon), Kushion, Bamboo, Karbon, Corinthian, Clatty Pats (changed it’s name), Oranmor (how do you like it?), Diamond Dolls or 7th Heavan, or how about the Casino?

Do you want to have that feeling one more time?

It is SUFC’s 3rd Annual Legends Day sponsored by Deloitte. The tentative date is June 6th, Strathclyde University Playing Fields (you know where that is). To which, you are cordially invited. If you want to part of the side that etches its name onto the Legends Shield please let us know if you’ll be attending. Can you follow in the footsteps of FC Shavenhaven and Ram Rod Stiffshafts? The success of the day goes hand in hand with your attendance.

We are thinking of a change of format this year, by moving from 11-aside teams to 7-aside teams, if you have a squad you’d like to put together please send that to us and we’ll try our best to keep everyone happy. If you would also like to be a team manager please let us know. Imagine the old boys against the young guns or Team Ayr versus Team Handsome or Cambia versus the Clyde, the possibilities are endless.

So, you, yes you, are cordially invited to accept, or reject, the opportunity to play for the SUFC Legends team. The plan for the day would be to meet up at Stepps for 12pm to arrange teams and games. There will also be a BBQ and refreshment stall at pitch side if you want your significant others to come along and watch this exciting spectacle. Following on from the game SUFC will have their traditional end of season dinner, which, of course, you are invited to also. At this event next
