WE DID IT!
DRAMATIC WIN KEEPS GORDOS IN GRADE 2
It was never going to be easy, and in true Gordos fashion this season, we never made it easy. With 21 points needed for guaranteed survival, it was a win that Gordos really sought to avoid being consigned to Grade 3. And the setting was Allan Park, home of promotion hopefuls "2nd" Cults where Gordos had to act out their Great Escape.
Despite Gordos winning the crucial toss and choosing to field, unexpected rain showers interrupted play on several occasions in the early going and the Gordos bowlers struggled to find rythym and consistency allowing a "reshuffled" Cults top order to flourish.
However it was the first ball after the last interruption that turned the game when Mathi struck with his first ball, pursed by Blair in the gully, on his way to a fine 5-wicket haul spell. Gordos didn't look back and took wickets for fun, including a blinding catch by Rowell to remove the top Cults' batsmen, and the home side were finally skittled for 116.
So with plenty overs in reserve and a strong batting line-up, Gordos just had to bat sensibly to amass the low target, however three slack wickets in the first three overs allowed the doubt to set in and the task suddenly became very difficult. But the middle order shone, highlighted by another fine Tariq innings (47) and some gritty partnerships, setting up Rich to finish the game in style. After thumping two large sixes out of the park to ease the nerves, Rich caressed the final four through the covers to take Gordos over the finishing line.
A real nail-biter that couldn't have been scripted, Gordos stumbled to victory from the jaws of defeat and in turn to safety in Grade 2.
Well done to all, and let's hope the encouraging signs make for a better campaign next season.0 Comments 128 weeks

Dear all,
A fantastic game on Saturday brought the curtain down on a really enjoyable season of Cricket that sported plenty a moment of controversy and humour.
To celebrate remaining in Grade 2 and to put the season to bed in style I thought it would be really enjoyable if we could get everyone together for a meal on Saturday evening at 1930. I would like to propose the Nazma Tandoori Restaurant on Bridge Street.
Could everyone that is interested get back to me before Tuesday 1730 so it gives me time to book a table.
Cheers
yeah get in. Good efforts all round, I'll get something posted on here team night out on sat.
