Nicole Richie (born Nicole Camille Escovedo) was born in Berkeley,California. When Nicole was 3, Lionel and his wife Brenda Harvey-Richie informally adopted her and raised her as their daughter. Her godfathers are Michael Jackson and Quincy Jones.

Lionel and Brenda split, and in their guilt over the separation, "Their way of making me happy was to say yes to everything I wanted, but I don't think a little girl should have that much freedom," said Richie in an interview.She used marijuana, cocaine, and heroin, was arrested three times, and was involved in five car accidents. Not until she went into drug rehabilitation in 2003 did Richie and her parents have an open conversation about her addiction. "I'm now, at 24, just learning to deal with my problems instead of concealing them with drugs," she said in the interview.

Richie and heiress Paris Hilton starred in the 2003 reality series The Simple Life Which was very sucessful.

    • Joel Madden Wants A Boy.

      'Good Charlotte' rocker and future baby daddy to Nicole Richie is hoping for a baby boy. Joel Madden was recently quoted saying "The world can use another Joel."

      There have been reports in the past few months and Richie is pregnant with a boy so maybe Joel was hinting when he said the world can use another Joel.

      I guess we're just going to have to wait and see what the sex is, I have a feeling they'll sell their story to one of the tabs and it'll be on the cover of the weeklies any day now. But for now having fun planning for the baby shopping, picking out names and designing a nursery, a friend says.

      Whatever the sex is, we wish her a healthy pregnancy. BTW: what the hell ever happened to Nicole's 'singing career'?

      In fact, there are reports that suggest that Richie has already been hard at work on her debut album. With a dad like Lionel Richie to advise her, perhaps Nicole will fare better than her Simple Life co-star Paris Hilton.

      Richie was spotted leaving a vocal lesson earlier this week. And she was definitely showing off the bun in her oven with a tight black outfit.

      I can picture it now… Good Charlotte with special guest… Nicole Richie. Hey, since they’re having a baby together, Joel and Nicole will have to find some way to tour together.
