So... the ice cream appreciation is basically a group for anyubody who loves, likes, or even just occasionaly has some ice cream. We started off in september 2006 after i decided to make an ice cream fan club, and my friend [mr okane] suggested a bebo band. so here we are all this time later... as the first ever ice cream group on bebo we generally frown upon other ice cream sites... apart from the ben and jerrys fan page cos they are just WELL WICKED!

    Ice-cream is a low GI (glycemic-index) food. This means that it is a slow sugar release food that keeps you satisfied for a longer period of time than a high GI food. For that reason, you are less likely to binge after eating ice-cream. 75 grams of Ben and Jerry’s Cookies and Cream ice-cream contains only 114 calories compared to a slice of cheesecake with 511 calories. Furthermore, ice-cream is made of milk which contains many essential nutrients and vitamins. 1 cup of milk contains up to 30% of a man’s daily recommended intake. Other nutrients in ice-cream are biotin, iodine, potassium, selenium, vitamins a, b12, D, and K. Studies show a possible link between milk consumption and a lowered risk of arterial hypertension, coronary heart disease, colorectal cancer.

    Interesting Fact: In the 5th century BC, the ancient Greeks sold snow cones made with fruit and honey in the markets of Athens.

  • Ben and Jerry's Support Gay Marriage

    Ben and Jerry's thankfully retained its activist edge after being bought by food giant Unilever in 2000. Now, to mark the legalization of same-sex marriages in Vermont, the ice cream company has changed the name of its popular “Chubby Hubby” ice cream to “Hubby Hubby” for the month of September.

    The action was taken in partnership with Freedom to Marry, a marriage equality group.

    According to a company press release, Ben & Jerry’s renaming the ice cream “aims to raise awareness of the importance of marriage equality and to encourage other states to follow the blazing trails of Vermont, Massachusetts, Connecticut, Iowa, and Maine.”

    The name change to “Hubby Hubby” is temporary and, for most of the country, largely symbolic. “Hubby Hubby” ice cream will at this point only be sold in Vermont through September.

    For those not in the know, Chubby/Hubby Hubby is fudge covered peanut butter filled pretzels in vanilla malt ice cream rippled with fudge and peanut butter.

    Ice cream is about to get a lot sexier, at least in London.

    The Icecreamists, a pop-up ice cream boutique, will open in Selfridges on September 10 and will introduce Londontown to their "vice cream," The Sex Pistol.

    Think Viagra in a sundae: it's an ice cream cocktail toting ingredients to get you in the mood, like gingko, biloba, arginine and guarana.

    It's paired with a shot of the intoxicating La Fee Absinthe and is so risque that it will only be served to customers 18 and older, and each customer may only have one!

    The Icecreamists' founder, Matt O'Connor, says that it's "the perfect apres shopping treat. Just one Sex Pistol will leave you feeling energized and confident - but please, don't pester the staff!"
