- AFTER THE WEDDING *OUT NOW*
- Tutto su di me
- Sanzkrit just released their award winning debut album ‘After the Wedding’ to mass critical acclaim, prompting the Irish Times to proclaim “It’s possible to imagine Sanzkrit as stars... further down the line, they’ve laid some impressive groundwork”.. The band’s 2007 limited edition “yeah but what if” EP has become somewhat of a collectors item amongst underground scensters and online bloggers have been quick to pick up on the buzz surrounding Sanzkrit too. With big players like TodayFM and The Irish Times heralding Sanzkrit on their band of the year lists and an explosive set at Electric Picnic 2008 still fresh in the memory. It’s been a steady rise to the top for these Carrickmacross indie-pop gloomsters. There seems to be a genuine excitement that Sanzkrit are not just another “next big thing” band, but something far more special. Can Sanzkrit meet the hype? They may just even exceed it. This week’s Hotpress magazine gave our album “After the Wedding” a whopping 4 out of 5 stars. Pretty amazing review too. Needless to say we’re very chuffed. Thanks HP.

After the Wedding [House Of strange Vinyl]
*****
DEBUT ALBUM OF THE YEAR CONTENDER FROM MONAGHAN OUTFIT
To say that one of the most anticipated homegrown releases of this year doesn't disappoint would be something of an understatement - for the Monaghan four-piece have delivered a near-masterpiece of the genre with this enthralling debut.
After The Wedding has everything - from the euphoric rush of opener 'Talk Of The Town' through to the power pop and country rock of 'Slow Smiles and Perfume', to the epic closer 'Berlin'.
You'll already be familiar with the mid-tempo single, 'Futila', which has a definite touch of Arcade Fire about it and is reason enough on its own to buy this. In a similar vein, but arguable boasting a stronger tune, 'Weightless' is another potential single among several more here.
Clever touches abound, such as the sampling of Pope John Paul II's infamous "young people of Ireland" speech from Galway 30 odd years ago on 'Croppies Acre' which, with its insistent chugging guitars and Brandon Flowers-like vocal, is yet another winner. Meanwhile, the machine gun drum rolls on 'Carnivore' - another gem - is just one small example of the fine attention to detail that has gone into this record.
It sounds terrific too - the echo-laden vocals, chiming guitars, sweeping drums and pulsating bass all combine to create a lush, widescreen, dynamic texture.
Sure, they're not doing anything radically different to a host of other guitar bases bands out there and there are shades of Interpol and Doves (and even The Killers and Snow Patrol) in the their sonic approach. But the passion and intensity with which these guys deliver has to be heard to be believed (they're touring soon - don't miss them).
Destined to be a classic of its kind, After The wedding is arguable the best Irish rock album since Whipping Boy's Heartworm. Fabulous artwork too!!

Mail on Sunday 4/5 stars & Evening Herald Interview
Yesterday’s ‘Mail on Sunday’ gave our album After the Wedding 4/5 stars
“.... excellent... an album that stays strong from track one all the way to eleven. There’s nothing mediocre about this outfit.” 4/5 – Danny McIlhinney (Mail on Sunday)
Thursday’s Evening Herald contained a sizeable interview/article about Sanzkrit too.
Both pieces can be read in full in the reviews folder in the pics section. Enjoy!
