I live in lovely Eugene, Oregon, where I work as a researcher in the field of fire science. It is a captivating subject for me, and I have been working with fire for over 10 years now.

Originally I am from Iowa, but my family left there when I was very young, and I consider the Pacific Northwest to be my real home. My father's name is Edward, too. There are a lot of Merrins out there, but not that many in Oregon. Funny, eh?

I attended the University of Montana in Missoula and majored in Biology. From there I went on to the University of Oregon where I continued my studies in the field of fire science. I have always been active in sports, and while an undergrad I played baseball and ultimate frisbee whenever I could.

In the next few years I would really like to make my own log cabin, doing everything on my own (or possibly with a little help from a few friends).
