Me, Myself, and I
Charles Hardin Holley born 7th September 1936 in Lubbock, Texas. Better known as "Buddy Holly" changed the face of music in the 50,s. His influence can still be heard today in every guitar bands songs.Every double stop guitar riff is testament to his place in Rock history. He made the Fender Stratocaster guitar the Rock Icon it is today. Paul McCartney said, "without Buddy Holly there would have been NO BEATLES"
Thats how important he was. During his short life he wrote and recorded some of the greatest songs of our time.
He died on 3rd February 1959, at the age of 22, in a plane crash which also claimed the lives of The Big Bopper and Richy Valance after giving his last performance at the Winter Dance Party in Clear Lake, Iowa. This day became known as, "The Day The Music Died" immortalised in the song AMERICAN PIE - written and recorded by Don McClean. After Buddy Holly everything else was just music.

Perhaps the greatest song ever written about Buddy Holly:

" A long long time ago, I can still remember how that music used to make me smile. And I knew if I had my chance that I could make those people dance and maybe they,d be happy for a while. But February made me shiver, with every paper I,d deliver, bad news on the doorstep, I couldnt take one more step.
Don McClean wrote this song in 1969, 10 years after the death of his childhood hero - Buddy Holly. McClean is looking back at his childhood in the 50,s.Like most kids of that era he loved the new "Rock n Roll" music. He dreamed of having his chance to play it and make people smile. - Just like Buddys music.
McClean had a paper round and as he delivered the papers on that cold February morning the news "made him shiver"as he read of how his hero - Buddy Holly had died in a plane crash in Iowa.
" I cant remember if I cried when I read about his widowed bride. But something touched me deep inide the day, the music died"
Buddy had married Marie Elena a short time before his death. She was pregnant with their first child, however she miscarried whilst grieving for Buddy.
"But something touched me deep inside, the day the music died"
Even as a young child, McClean was acknowledging that he understood something catastrophic had happened. - Buddy Holly was dead, he would neverwrite another song! - The music would never be the same again - it had DIED. There is a reoccuring line in Buddys song " That,ll be the day" which says at the end of each chorus, -" That,ll be the day, when I die" The Music had died and life would never be the same again......

    TO BE CONT.......
