Bollocks to Poverty is about doing something you love and fighting global poverty at the same time.

The Bollocks to Poverty tour is your chance to put on a gig or club night to help fight global poverty with ActionAid. You can raise awareness or money or both! All the dates on the tour are organised by lovely people like you. We will help by providing stickers, badges, posters and visuals, and advice on fundraising and getting media coverage.

Just what the hell is Bollocks to Poverty and who are we?!!!
We though we should probably go into a little more detail on just who the hell we are!!

We are ActionAid Space, the creative campaigning network of development charity ActionAid.

ActionAid are a very nice organisation who work with poor and marginalised people in Africa, Asia & Latin America. We do all the usual things such as funding projects to improve water, sanitation, health and education but we're different from a lot of other development charities. We take a rights based approach which means we don't just provide short term fixes but instead we work directly with the people concerned so that they can help get themselves out of poverty. We also don't sit here in the UK telling people what they need or what they should have. They tell us how we can help them find sustainable solutions.

Another important part of our work is campaigning. What's the point in us working with poor farmers in Kenya if all the crops they grow are worthless because of unfair trade rules and exploitation by foreign corporations? We can help people living with AIDS live positively but what's the point if they can't afford treatment because drug companies refuse to drop the price or money promised by the world's richest countries is not being given?

This is where you come in. To quote a phrase once used by a very worthy Irishman "we're not after your fucking money". We want you to spread the word and take action on our campaigns.

Bollocks to Poverty sums up our frustration with a world where 1 in 7 people go hungry every day.

We've been taking Bollocks to Poverty to Reading festival for the last 5 years. In 2006 nearly 5000 people sent a photo message to their MP about the 2010 AIDS Treatment target promised by the G8 leaders in 2005. The result has been nearly a third of all MPs pledging their support to the campaign and putting pressure on Gordon Brown.

We want Bollocks to Poverty to hit the road and go to all the places that we can't. By holding a Bollocks to Poverty event you can campaign or raise awareness, keeping the pressure up on decisions makers and demanding an end to the scandal of global poverty. Short term fixes can help but if we really want to end global poverty we have to campaign to change the things that are keep people poor.
