Bród Ireland West (Galway Gay Pride) 20th Anniversary Parade
Bród Ireland West (Galway Gay Pride)
20th Anniversary Parade
Bród Ireland West in the spirit of Community Co-operation attended discussions hosted by the Garda Community Liaison Officer Sergeant Gerry Mangan.
The result of that meeting and a subsequent meeting of the Bród Ireland West Committee lead to a further meeting between a delegation from Bród Ireland West and a Delegation from Galway Community Pride the following Parade route and organisation compromise has been proposed.
The 20th Anniversary Gay Pride Parade will assemble at the space between the Town Hall Theatre and the Galway Court House, Court House Square. The Parade will move from there up Eglington Street then down Shop Street and eventually Terminate at the Party in the Park in Father Burke Park on Father Griffin Road.
In an effort to foster Unity it is proposed that the Parade be lead by 3 members of the original Pride parade from 1989 followed by a combination of Bród Ireland West and the recently founded Galway Community Pride with Banners from both Groups.
Following on to this we further propose that the Large Rainbow flag (the Universal Symbol for Pride) comes next! This would then be followed by Banners from Various groups in Random Order including OutWest, Shout, Galway Community Pride and Bród Ireland West, LGBT Noise, MarriagEquality.
It is our View that the order of Banners and Marchers is immaterial and that the emphasis has to be on the Occasion of the 20th Anniversary of Galway Pride and the 40th Anniversary of the Stonewall Riots the Birth of Pride.
This compromise has been signed off by the delegations from Both Groups and was subsequently ratified by the full Committee of Bród Ireland West.
Bród Ireland West has undertaken to withdraw its already approved parade route that was to set off from City Hall in Favour of a Joint Application between Bród Ireland West and Galway Community Pride in the Name of Galway Gay Pride.
Bród Ireland West (Galway Gay Pride) would Like to thank Sergeant Gerry Mangan for his assistance in this matter.
In a wider Context Bród Ireland West welcome this agreement as it serves the wider LGBT Community.
Up to date Bród Ireland West (Galway Gay Pride) had taken a policy decision not to engage in negative publicity however we are Proud to announce this Common Sense Agreement that allows the attention to focus back on the 20th Anniversary of Galway Gay Pride (Bród Ireland West)

Galway Pride is to be the first Pride festival ever to host a Heat of the Mr. Gay Ireland Contest
The Mr. Gay Pride Galway contest will be held as part of the annual Galway Gay Pride Festival running from August 19th to 23rd
The Actual Mr Gay Pride Galway contest will have a number of segments featuring Formal Wear, Casual Wear and Swim Wear as well as an interactive process with Judges and the audience allowing the contestants to display any talent they have such as musical numbers Dance routine etc.
The Contest will take place in two venues on the Friday night of Pride (Friday August 21st) with the initial rounds taking place in ‘Bar Pride’ and then moving onto the main venue for the Pride ‘The Black Box Theatre on the Dyke Road.
This is the Twentiet Anniversay of the Gay Pride Festival in Galway , which sees thousand of visitors flock to Galway to take part in the Parade, Party in the Park, Rose of Pride Pageant and now the Mr. Gay Pride Galway Contest. These Visitors will provide a welcome Economic boost to the City with Accomodation, Food and Beverage sales getting a shot in the arm, Not to mention the Colour it will bring to the City.
Galway Gay Pride has a record of raising money for Good Causes and charities (AIDSWEST, Shout- the Galway LGBT Youth Group and The Outwest Helpline) Similary Mr. Gay Ireland has a record of raising money for Charity and Good Causes.
Mr Gay Ireland is a nationwide community civic and social project designed to overcome negative stereotypes of gay people and to encourage a civic and social action for HIV/Aids amongst the contestants and their friends. The success of Mr Gay Ireland and Mr Gay Northern Ireland as a HIV/Aids benefit is a tribute to the tremendous cooperation from the community and the very high standard of contestants themselves. In 2007 21,000 euro was donated directly to the New Fill Project at St James Hospital and to Round Tower Housing Association last year – in 2008 a further 17,200 euro was donated to St James Hospital. In total over 70,000 euros has been raised for HIV/Aids and LGBT charities.
The Mr Gay Ireland Contest is fully nationwide and will have 24 contestants in the Grand Final will be held on Saturday October 27th from Ireland, North and South. (Including Mr. Gay Pride Galway) It is the only ‘All- Ireland’ event of its kind and it does a lot to welcome rural communities to Dublin – many for the first time. Diversity is the key and we have had entrants from 18 to 40, and many nationalities competing for the prize. Mr Gay Dublin ‘07 was Spanish and Mr Gay South West ‘08 was Polish.
Galway Gay Pride Intend that ‘The Mr Gay Pride Galway’ will be the largest Most successful heat of the Mr Gay Ireland Contest and will of itself attract Hugh interest and Visitors to Galway (Including a few Celebrities). That is why the Bród Ireland West Committee has put up a Prize fund of over €1,000.
The Winner of ‘Mr. Gay Pride Galway’ will be given sponsorship cards to raise monies for HIV causes/Charities and 100% of all funds raised are given to the nominated groups. The fundraising effort is counted as one Judge in the Final of Mr Gay Ireland where effort and the total raised are appraised.
Galway Pride is one of the largest Pride Festivals in the Country and with this New Partnership with the Mr. Gay Ireland Contest Galway Pride in its Twentieth year will be going from strength to strength.
