There is an undeniable buzz on Washington born singer/songwriter Brandi Carlile. Discovered by Rick Rubin, and produced by T Bone Burnett; she certainly has the dream team behind her - but yet her sound is so fresh and natural, and clearly personal. She sold out the Borderline on her first visit here and she's since supported Newton Faulkner on tour.

Combining blues and soul with a nod to Bonnie Raitt, Carlile's music can be described as a honest vocals, organic sounds and arresting delivery, she blends raw music with real talent. Highlights include the single 'Turpentine' -which featured in the smash-hit US show 'Grey's Anatomy' and a duet with Elton John on her latest album on a track called 'Caroline'. New album 'Give Up The Ghost' is set for UK release on 23rd Nov.

    • 'Give Up The Ghost' released 23rd November

      Brandi Carlile releases her third album ‘Give Up The Ghost’ on November 23rd. After two albums and non-stop touring, 'Give Up The Ghost' is her most candid recording to date. The album features her long-time band including twins Tim and Phil Hanseroth and cellist Josh Neumann, and was recorded at Sunset Sound in Los Angeles, CA.

      The recording of ‘Give Up The Ghost’ presented the realisation of a dream for Brandi – the opportunity to work with her idol, Elton John, duetting on the song 'Caroline'

      “Brandi has an amazing voice,” he says. “She’s a great songwriter and has a tremendous career ahead of her.”

      Brandi says that Elton played a key a role in her evolution as an artist: “I’ve been listening to country and western music my whole life and I was totally immersed in Grand Ole Opry culture, wherein the entertainers are usually not the ones who wrote the music. But when I was 11 and discovered Elton John, I realised that performers do write and perform their own songs, and I immediately went out and got a keyboard and started writing.” When they recorded together, “I was just overwhelmed by the years, and by the influence that somebody can have on another person’s life without even knowing it.”

      ‘Give Up The Ghost’ also features Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers multi-instrumentalist Benmont Tench, Red Hot Chili Peppers drummer Chad Smith, Amy Ray of The Indigo Girls and was produced by Grammy award winner Rick Rubin & Jason Lader.

      Well I did everything I could to promote Brandi last time she was here last year - I managed to get my local radio station to play "The Story", I've posted the gig review on my blog, I got the same review published in the local newspaper (took up two thirds of a page - big publicity!) and I've been telling everyone I can to check her out. Gimme some love Brandi record company people!! Looking forward to the upcoming Glasgow gig once more - and the new album can't come soon enough!! :D
