Ourselves just before we go on stage....and some of the pictures after. Icky gicky spiders, esp the HUGE black ones that come into Mags house in September.
Happiest When
Why dancin' of course. And choreographing, and drinking champagne, or even better Orchid's creek. Happiest when doing all of the above onstage to a crowded room full of folk....

    • Black Orchid Classes Commence January 29th

      Hi Ladies,

      As promised we are very pleased to announce the beginning of a new era for Tribal Fusion Bellydance in Ireland.
      To date as most of you know the Orchids have travelled extensively to train with the best in Tribal Bellydance - and the time has come to share the knowledge. Our offering is a 10-week class. Each class will have a set structure pre-determined by Black Orchid. Our class emphasis is to get your body working and accustomed to the techniques and drilling required for Tribal Fusion. For those new to belly dance or dancers new to tribal fusion - this will be a slow process but our aim is to equip you with the basic fundamentals of this dance, which will serve as a basis for your dance and practice.
      We will also be catering for the more experienced dancer. As there are two of us teaching there will be ample opportunity to receive one on one training for any moves/techniques you want to master. All basic steps will be covered enabling you to increase your dance vocabulary and start on a wonderful journey of learning this mesmerizing skill.
      We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who registered their interest and kept up their patience while Black Orchid found the perfect venue on the perfect night. So if you want to start off '09 learning the most beautiful art form Black Orchid style please let us know as soon as possible. All welcome and we look forward to seeing you.
      Class details as follows - please note due to studio restrictions our class will be 1 hour long - however if we can extend this along the way - we will!
      Start date; 29th Jan
      End date; 02nd April
      Thursdays 6-7pm
      Cost; €13 per class
      €120 including discount must be paid up front to hold your place. Payment accepted via paypal, or should you wish to pay cash please contact us to arrange.
      Venue; Dance House, Foley St (directions available if required)

    • BLACK ORCHID STYLE TRIBAL BELLYDANCE CLASS STARTING JANUARY 09.

      Most of our blogs start with a thankyou and this one shall be no different. Thank you to all those of you who have constantly requested we start a weekly, regular tribal belly dance class in the city centre. We have done our research and now most of you have expressed interest in a Thursday night class. This suits us fine too. Fake tan night will have to be moved to Wednesday. :)

      Our classes will be an hour and a half, so you will get the full benefit of an hour's worth of dance training and half hour will be for warm up and cool down. We will be covering all the tribal basics in this 10 week course and you can expect to benefit in all areas from breaking down technique to mastering those beautiful and challenging tribal moves & postures that make up choreographies. Our warm ups are yoga inspired movements that will relax and stretch you out in preparation for some serious muscle memory inducing dance. (Both Roisin and Mags study yoga & attend their own classes. They have also had training on incorporating these yoga inspired warm ups safely into their class.)

      We have studied abroad many times under Mardi Love, , Moria, Rachel Brice & Sharon Kihara, (and hosted 3 out of 4 of those tribal queens in Dublin) and are happy to pass on their knowledge....and as many of you know from our workshops, we will be injecting what we like to refer to as Black Orchid flavour to your training.

      We have many things planned for '09, and would like you to be part of it, so come and help expand the Orchid empire, as what are we, without you? Sign up and let us show you how to move like an Orchid....and if you do, please consider adapting this useful mantra.

    • A big THANK YOU to Sharon Kihara!!!!!



      Well ladies doesn't work effin' suck! The orchids have been a bit busy lately with the day jobs/holidays etc etc blah blah blah.. but here it is anyway..

      We just wanted to say a big thank you to all of you lovely ladies who came to the 3rd Bellydance Superstar Workshop hosted by the Orchids... and of course a big big thank you to Sharon Kihara for taking the time to come to our fair city of Dublin.

      Ladies we& do apologise for the initial date change and lack of promo posters around town/net/tribe unfortunately this was out of our control. We know all of you lovely ladies were gasping to see Sharon in a show, however due to other contractual agreements a Sunday show was just not possible.. however I'm sure we'll all get to see her in action again soon.

      The Orchids have taken many many workshops with Sharon, we are testament, and all of you lovely ladies who& have mailed us& with your feedback will agree,& that her teaching technique and attention to detail in the workshops is of the highest calibre and we all expected no less and were not disappointed on that score. For any of you who have not trained with Sharon K, what y'all waitin' for find out where she is and go go go!!!

      Poor Sam in the chinese restaurant in Ratoath really did not know what hit him when we arrived into him for yet another scrumptious meal.. ok ok we didnt cause the havoc on the Sat night that we did on the Friday night.. somehow involving Elvis.. (y'all better not to ask about that) but the meals were blast from start to finish.. Just dont ask Heike about the chicken impression...

      Ok the Orchids are off to pack our bags and travel to Norn Irn (ok thats Northern Ireland.. Belfast) to Adele and the lovely Jewel Dancers to perform at their yearly Charity Hafla. For more info/tickets or to make a donation contact Adele http://www.jeweldancers.com/

      Thats so not the word, I was totally hangin' altogether!! It was a deadly night I have to say! I got into bed at whatever time that was and I didnt get up til 10 this morning, THATS how bad I was.
