Christmas is coming
Everyone's going mad with the Christmas lights - especially in America, where I was until last Thursday. Rudolph is perched on the roofs of houses and Santa drives his sleigh across lawns. I saw a small town Christmas parade with at least fifteen Santas riding Harley Davidsons along the main street. I loved it! After that I just had to go into the local Harley store and take a close look at the gleaming Dynas and Classics and Softtails - all purely in the interests of research!
Over there they're getting ready to publish Book 1 of the Beautiful Dead in March. It's been re edited and I'm about to start work on the page proofs.
Back home, I'm still busy with the Jonas screenplay, taking dialogue from the novel and rewriting it for the screen. I've reached the point where Darina realises for the first time that the Beautiful Dead only get to stay here on the far side for twelve months - after that there are no extensions, no second chances. So she only gets Phoenix back into her life for one year, and there are conditions. He has to do exactly what his overlord tells him because he has no free will. And Hunter warns her that Phoenix may not be capable of loving her any more. Should she believe him? Or does she trust Phoenix, who tries to convince her that his love stays with her, even if he's not physically there with her? Meanwhile, Darina has to figure out exactly what happened when Jonas crashed his Harley and died.
I guess I'll stop work when Christmas comes and do all the festive stuff. No turkey though, since I'm strictly veggie.

vampires, werewolves ... and the Beautiful Dead
Have you seen the queues for the New Moon movie? It's happening in America as well as here in the UK. Evereyone's going crazy for paranormal romance! What is it exactly? Is it pure wish fulfilment? Every girl wants a guy with supernatural powers who loves her more than life. Whatever it is, vampires are sexy.
I'm hoping that the difference with Phoenix and the Beautiful Dead is that the focus isn't so much on the paranormal as on the way the characters feel and act under pressure. Phoenix loves Darina but he's also jealous, sometimes moody, and never able to get free of Hunter's control. Darina's love for Phoenix is mixed in with grief over losing him. Plus, she knows that their time together comes to an end after twelve months. The clock is always ticking.
In real life (whatever that is), I'm all set to fly to the U.S again - I leave this weekend. So, time to pack my bag ...
In case you ever wonder why there's no pic of me on this site, only a silhouette - that's deliberate. Partly because I like anonymity. The idea of being in the public eye doesn't appeal, and I know this is unusual in the days of 'I'm a Celebrity...'. But I don't get the "Look at me!" attitude that goes around. I hear little kids being interviewed about what they want to be when they grow up, and they don't say 'astronaut' or 'doctor', they say 'famous'. That really bothers me.
The other reason for no pic on this blog is that Eden Maguire is my pen name. Who I really am is a mystery ...
Thanks for buying and reading both Jonas and Arizona - keep on using the site to give me feedback and to suggest actors and music for the possible/proabable movie version.

catch up
You wouldn't think that a writer's life is so caught up with meetings, e mails and phone calls, but it is. People imagine a writer sitting alone at a desk just being creative - if only!
Last week I met with my agent and my publisher. I had to go through contracts line by line with my agent - I tried hard to look as if I understood everything that was going on. Film deals are incredibly complicated. Then I met with my publisher to talk about future projects. We're pretty convinced that the topics of vampires and werewolves have been done to death ( uh-oh -there;'s a terrible pun in there somewhere!), so we're looking at other fantasy areas. Three of us sit in a room throwing ideas around until we settle on something that looks promising. Of course I can't say what exactly - it all stays under wraps until we're ready to publish, which will be at least eighteen months down the line.
Meanwhile, I'm about to start work on Beautiful Dead Book 4.
Book 3 - Summer - is with the printers. The design work for the jacket is done, and it looks beautiful - a really amazing image for the front cover.
We're happy with the way Book 2 - Arizona - is selling in the major bookstores and supermarkets.
So Book 4 - this is Phoenix's story, and it's what everything has been building up to. His twelve months is almost up - Darina knows she has to solve the mystery surrounding his death, but she also knows it's almost time to say goodbye forever...

I think that when the movie comes out Selena Gomez should play Darina. She has had short hair before and it looked awesome! She would rock the dark greiving and smoky mascaraed character Darina.

i just finished summer and did not cry, omw.... there were times when i wanted to cry my eyes out but not one tear came out. in jonas i balled and in arizona. i give this book a 4 though. all i want to know is if the songs in the book are fictional or can i go download it somewhere. would love to hear it. i can't wait to see what happens in the last book. october must come fast

hi, i just borrowed book 0ne from my local libuary, thought it was amazing and as always a hit with the teenage girls. books like this always get teen attention. lol. you chose two topics that everyone loves supernatural and imposible love. now i'm going to have to go buy the whole collection and i am most curious about what will happen in the last book. maybe brandon killed pheonix?? good guess or not?? love your writing its fab and thanks for creating such amazing characters and the element of mystery. i'd love to know what your next project is. cannot wait. keep inspiring our minds. kayla x

Summer Possiable Spoilers i just read summer and i think there is a twist in the plot.

Then we found out that hunters had a daughter after his wife got .....
i think that hunters daughter had a daughter and that daughter had Darina,
this maybe confusing but that is my thought.
i also think that hunter will leave in book 4 phoenix. But then the writer might have a chance to write another book.
this would be fantasic.
