Sunday June 21st saw another radio first for Beat 102-103, when they staged and broadcast a 2 hour show devoted to live Irish music – essentially a mini music festival! On the Irish Beats show, every note heard, every lyric sung was performed LIVE by some of Ireland’s brightest up and coming talents. No CDs, no computers – just some microphones and raw talent.

Presenter Rob O’Connor said “What was most evident from the show was the range of Irish music. A lot of people think Irish musicians can’t see past the soppy love song and an acoustic guitar, which of course isn’t true. We had everything from the likes of Neosupervital’s pop electronica sound, to the Country-vibes of Hollering Pine, to out and out Rock n’Roll stylings of O Emperor.” In total 9 acts took part, constantly moving in and out of the Beat studios, offering a steady stream of quality live music to listeners.

“It was a real challenge” O’Connor continues, “as there were different levels of engineering complexity for different musicians, but the fact that we kept it going with no breaks or having to go to a CD even once is a testament to the hard work everyone put into this project.”
