Why go back to the old dinner table?

What has happened to parents of the last few generations? Why aren't we teaching our children the rights from the wrongs these days? No wonder teenagers are so confused about life.
No wonder there is so much tragedy.

It is our responsibility to teach our children good conduct and morals as it is to teach them how to read and write.

In today's fast paced society we have lost something very valuable and precious, our children. For how can they possibly grow up to be good and caring people if they don't know what good and caring mean?

Let me give you an example of what I'm talking about. If you let your kid get away with stealing something, say something minor, then they think it is alright to steal and continue to do so as young adults. Then when they grow up they are arrested for stealing, can you imagine their surprise at being reprimanded for such a thing, when you condoned or allowed it in the first place. This is cruel and a child has a right to learn good from bad. It is our responsibility as parents to teach this from childhood.

Not just stealing, but respecting other's property, being loyal and faithful, so many moral issues that kids don't understand.

We live in a society where technology has taken over and therefore the parent sits back and lets the kids learn everything from the tv, or the laatest game, or a conversation on the net.

We need to go back to sitting at the dinner table and talking over the days events with each other. The Leave it to Beaver era. Why? Because this way we can stay in touch with our children. We simply need to take the time to listen to our children again. Taking time, that's part of the problem. And they know it.

You rush to work, you rush to go buy dinner, you rush out the door to visit friends. You take your kids to ballgames, you are there, but what do you say when their hearts are breaking because you wouldn't listen to them?

The dinner table is more than just having a meal together. It's a stopping place for families. It's the one time of day that you should take the time to listen to the conversations going on. Ask your child about their day, look for signs of trouble. Get interested in what bothers them, what makes them happy. The reward is the kind of adult you help to raise. And your job as a parent is the most important job in the world.

Hi Rita

I am so glad to see you back online again and that you are getting some inspiration to write. Things are well with me. Looking forward to your next release.

Hi Rita

My own personal opinion is that I get hooked by the cover and a strong blurb. Blurbs to me either twigs my interest or not. They are also a short summary of the book. I am not one to like full chapter excerpts and seldom read them. I like excerpts that are taken from somewhere out of the book that hooks you in and makes you want to read more of the story. Very much like you do with the trailers except not with the pictures (if that makes sense). When you read the whole chapter or first chapter, then when you get the book it is harder to be pulled into the book, because it is like a rerun and all the while you are reading it you think (or I do anyway) I have read this before. I read a book recently that I kept thinking I had read the book before, but it was only because I had read the first chapter somewhere. But as you say it is hard to guage what others want.:)
