All change, after 5 years of a Computing degree, I'm going to teach drums! I'll be working at Lathallan Schools, and Gordonstoun Schools teaching Pipe Band Drumming, and doing a wee bit of web work on the side.

My main band is Bucksburn & District in Aberdeen, where I am Lead Drummer. We have an extremely successful junior band who were 2008 Scottish, British and World Champions, and the current Senior Drum Corps will be made fully of graduates from our Junior Band. I also teach a couple of hours at weekends for Aberdeen Schools along with Nicky Gibson of Grampian Police Pipe Band. I am also available to teach at workshops with bands throughout the country. I've written an Introduction to Snare Drum booklet that many bands use to tutor beginners. I play pretty much any type of drum, especially djembe, cajon and kit.

When I'm free from drumming enjoy going hill-walking, with a bit of scrambling up rock for added fun. Bit of Mountain Biking doesn't go amiss either..

Happiest When
On top of a big hill on a clear day with a fantastic view, knowing that I've done the hard/scary bit and it's all easy downhill over big snow patches with clear cold streams to drink. Playing good tunes with people who just want to play well and have fun...

  • Week of climbing

    Well, it was meant to be a long distance slow from Beauly to Morvich, but instead we ended up on Skye.

    First we climbd Sguee nan Eag from Glen Brittle campsite, gtting a great view from the ridge. Fantastic first climb on Skye. Stayed overnight at Rachel's place in Tarskavaig, nice house!

    Then, we headed to Glen shiel, to climb Creag nan Damh. Great views as far as Ben Nevis, and enough heat in the air to sit on the top in t-shirts.

    Back to work for a few days then....off ino the Cairngorms to climb Beinn Bhreac. Cycled a mile past Derry Lodge then off up the boggy hill side. Decided against the Yalla Moss as the previous days rain had made most burns pretty high. Headed back down and then checked out a few posible camp sites near Linn of Quoich.

    Quick jaunt to the West Coast climbing with Nicky again.

    Our plans went a little wwrong when we went up a different glen to the one we meant to, but turned out that we decided to climb to the 5 sisters ridge instead of a plain old hill.

    Was a knee shattering climb up the north face of the ridge, and was pretty close to giving in, but after 4 hours of slogging, we made it to the top and what a view! Everything from Torridon in the North to Spean Bridge to the South-East.

    Didn't attempt the ridge as the snow was waaaay too corniced, but was worth the climb all the same. Glissaded back down trying out our ice axe skills, and boy was I glad to get a seat!

Its great living in town again - we were staying in a flat near the uni but it was a (very) short lease and then this place became available - its across the road from my best pal so it suits me grand plus I can walk to the pub - even better!     Hey!!! How are you doing?!?! Managed to get walking yesterday, went to a volcanic island called Rangitoto, was a really good walk. Got very steep at the top, we decided to go the path that just went straight up it!! Got fantastic views of all the islands in the bay beside Auckland and the views over Auckland and the surrounding areas were fantastic. Shall put my pics up later this week! Managed to catch the sun too, my aim is to be more tanned than you when I get back, although im not 100% sure thats physically possible mr tan man!! Going skiing once ive finished placement with Ferg, cant wait :D
