- This is the West Cork Arts Centres new Youth Arts Page!! Read on to see what there is happening for young people in West Cork...
With the Autumn term a new season of projects has started at WCAC, with the Youth Theatre meeting on Thursday evenings with Karen Moynihan, Ballet and modern dance with Alan Foleys Academy of Dance on Wednesdays and the Friday Night Youth Arts group meeting on (oh go on, guess) Friday nights. We hope to be making much use of our new website www.yaac.ie over the coming year so sign up now to stay involved.
In other news fundraising is continuing for the new building fund, we have until January to raise enough money to secure the rest of the funding- so let us know if you have any great ideas and keep an eye out for and support any fundraising events going on near you. - FNYA
- an opportunity for young people age13-18 to work with professional artists to create multimedia work for the Youth exhibition
- Youth Theatre
- a high quality, educational and enjoyable drama experience for young people exploring role play, characterisation and theatre skills.
- Outreach
- giving those outside of the Skibbereen area the chance to get involved in the programme through projects run in partnership with local youth organisations.
- Alan Foleys Academy of Dance
- classes, workshops and performances in ballet, jazz and modern dance for 3 to 16 year olds promoting dance as a vibrant and enjoyable art form

- West Cork Arts Centre is acknowledged as one of the most successful regional arts centres in the country. We provide a community-based arts facility and arts programme for the whole West Cork region and support a multi-disciplinary arts programme with a focus on modern and contemporary visual art and a range of education and community programmes.

Sorry if I missed some of you, or sorry for the ones that didn t understand what to do
I think it is a really nice text... Great job!!
My mind is a map
Sometimes the fog covers it
A side efect of me beeing lazy, my mind is hazy.
When it is full of things to think about it is like a city with thousands of voices and sounds coming from everywhere
And at Night, it can be like a maze with dead ends that do not add up or make any sense
My mind is a map
Through the land flows a river. Everynow and then various tributaries join the main stream and at the mouth there are millions of them fighting for a place in the sea. Only the strongest gets through. Sometimes bad ideas get through too and pollute the water.
In some parts there are cities on hills wich rise steeply and chasms dropping to oblivion.
In some others there are busy motorways.
Further south there is a pool of hopes, dreams and wishes. It is deep and murky so no one can see through.
And looking at East you can see a jungle where plants and animals are full of memories.
Sometimes my mind is a rain storm.
Just a rain storm.
The lovely kind.
In my mind, the positions of islands mirrors the constilations of the stars.
Sometimes it is confused like thousands of crossroads.
My mind is a map.
It is a continuous road of conversations and experiences.
There the jouney never ends.

hi ali, i've read your blog, i think it all sounds pretty cool, I liked the black silhouettes on the background picture from last year, but i think that the background picture should stay the same for each picture, or else it will be too much of a distraction, unless the backgrounds are really similar. I think the prints should be separate from the projection, they should be some of the ones from the brochure. thanks, hazel.

To answer Hazels question (below), the youth event opens on Friday the 24th April, with the opening event that evening, the exhibition will run until the 16th May, there will be another project happening the week before too, on the weekend of the 17/18/19 April. I will be posting up all the details within the week

For all those involved in the yellow mountain project with Amanda Coogan. Please make a note in your diary: the film will be screened at the end of July in Skibbereen. There will be a launch on Thursday 30 July- at maybe 7pm ( time to be confirmed, and will be on show then for the next two days....
