Urgent Action: Binyam Mohamed – Digg him out of danger now
http://www.unsubscribe-me.org/action...
Digg him out of danger now to celebrate the International Day Against Torture
Amnesty International is seriously concerned for the health and well-being of Binyam Mohamed, particularly following the US government's announcement that it has charged him for trial by military commission. His mental and physical health are reported to be precarious after years of indefinite detention, and alleged torture or other cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment in Pakistan, Morocco, Afghanistan and Guantánamo.
If we do nothing, there is a good chance he will lose his mind or his life. We must not let this happen.
Binyam Mohamed has shown signs of being suicidal. His military lawyer has attempted to obtain an independent examination of Binyam Mohamed’s mental health, but this request has been denied.
Amnesty is asking you to pressurise the British Government to support Binyam's US military lawyer's calls to have him moved out of the maximum security prison Camp 5 in Guantanamo into Camp Echo immediately. Our ask is two-fold, send an email to the Foreign Secretary David Miliband and click the Digg link on that page to help make others aware of this urgent action. You can also find out more.

Diane Abbott's 42-days speech
The Hackney North and Stoke Newington MP's speech last night was hailed by the Tory who followed her, David Davies, as 'one of the finest speeches I have heard since being elected to the House of Commons'. Here is what she said.

42-day terror law faces 'very rough ride' in Lords
Lord Goldsmith, the former attorney-general under Tony Blair, also accused the Prime Minister of having pushed the measure through the Commons yesterday purely to show his "political virility", echoing a widespread view that it has little chance of making it onto the statute books in its present form.

Sweeteners for Northern Ireland and a peerage for the Rev Ian Paisley, dropping sanctions on Cuba and the governorship of Bermuda were among the offers the Government is thought to have used to secure Gordon Brown’s victory in yesterday’s vote.

Gordon Brown won a hollow victory for his new 42-day anti-terrorism powers last night when he was forced to rely on the votes of nine Democratic Unionist Party MPs during a day of backroom deals and concessions.

Brown wheels out the weak and wounded
Even wheeling out the walking wounded was not enough. Gordon Brown was forced to resort to blatant bribes and an alleged deal with the nine Democratic Unionist Party (DUP) members to save his skin in the biggest Commons cliff-hanger since the days of John Major's government.

Do you trust the government to protect our civil liberties in the 'war on terror'?
- Yes, the government would not compromise our civil liberties
- No, the government is eroding civil liberties
-
- No difference
- Worse. Gordon Brown will want to look tough.
- Better. Better than Blair, not exactly a tough act to follow in this respect.
- Doesn't matter, neither are in control anyway.

Peter.44 weeks agoLook at this.
The United Nations Convention against Torture and Other Cruel, Inhuman or Degrading Treatment or Punishment (UNCAT) came into force in June 1987.
But wikipedia says this:
In 2007 waterboarding led to a political scandal in the United States when the press reported that the CIA had waterboarded extrajudicial prisoners and that the Justice Department had authorized this procedure. The CIA is known to have used waterboarding on at least three Al-Qaida suspects: Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, Abu Zubaydah and Abd al-Rahim al-Nashiri.
Its Inhumane.

Awesome page. I believe strongly against the human rights abuses of this government and the Bush Administration.
We no longer have civil liberties that the generations before us had. We can now be imprisoned without trial and our property searched and siezed with no incriminating evidence under the 2005 Terrorism Act. Then deported to America without trial and without a lawyer or any defence.
And they call it protection of our freedom.
Youtube removed Taking Liberties as it is inciteful and stirred hatred. Taking Liberties is a documentary on how the government has removed our freedoms and allows us to be subject to torture and harassment.
Please all watch the below link of Zeitgeist, and let our generation end topple the tyranical New World Order.

Let us end torture. Let us stop it from continuing. Starting from the corrupt world order.

Unsubscribe65 weeks agoCabinet split emerges over 42 day detention
Patrick Wintour, political editor The Guardian, Wednesday April 2 2008
The first signs of a high-level Cabinet split over proposals to extend suspects' detention to 42 days emerged yesterday as the government faced criticism from Labour backbenchers. Gordon Brown has been counselled by senior colleagues that there is no real need to push ahead with the extension, adding to the pressure from leading figures in the judiciary, including the director of public prosecutions, Sir Ken Macdonald.
It is understood that senior figures in the Ministry of Justice, and law officers have privately expressed concern about pushing ahead with 42 days, saying that recent changes in the law make it unnecessary. The controversial counter terror bill received its second reading yesterday...

Cam67 weeks agoI think that the high profile status of places like Guantanamo Bay, and the actions which take place there, are in a way making everything that goes on there seem so unreal. Like, we are getting so used to these torture tales that we don't care as much. At least thats their aim.
It's sick. It really is.
