- Even thou they raided places all over nz that morning, most raids happened here in the lands of Tūhoe, so that they will not be accused of singling out Tūhoe.

- If the police thought Ruatoki was organised before October 15, they should see it now. "We only have to look behind us, to see what's in front of us

- Our great ancestors carried the desires and dreams of Tuhoe, symbolising the Tuhoe presence. They held the mauri, the internal drive, and the courage to holdfast to their dreams and their way of life. These leaders grew leaders, not followers there was a great number of those who died to maintain the solidarity of the Meta-Autonomy of Tuhoe any negative actions directed at these people were negative actions against Tuhoe, and the consequences that would have flowed with deterrence that helped to maintain a Tuhoe presence.
One Tuuhoe woman said in 2005: "Our ancestors died fighting against them [colonial soldiers] for the land. We will not settle for anything less and maybe our hope will be realised and our lands will return to us. That is what we must look to."

Kei au te Rangtiratanga - Apocalyptic visions
- Apocalyptic visions of a New Heaven and a New Earth are not, of course, restricted to the radical environmental movement.
Among the defeated Maori tribes of the late 19th century, such visions provided both solace and inspiration. Indeed, it was to shut down and disperse "New Jerusalem", the millennial community created by the Tuhoe prophet Rua Kenana at Maungapohatu (Tuhoe's sacred mountain) that the last great expedition of armed constabulary set off into the Ureweras in March 1916.
October 15th 2007 the State Invaded the Nation of Tūhoe once again
There will be few among the Maori Party leadership who are not aware of the prophetic traditions of Tuhoe, or unaware of that tribe's special status as the last to succumb to the ceaseless encroachment of the Pakeha state. - BACK IN THE MISTS OF FEAR:
- "I weep for what has just happened at Maungapohatu in Tuhoe. The Police raid seems to be about punishing Kenana for questioning the Crown and will only take us back in the mists of fear and doubt… I wonder if we will ever stop worrying when it might happen again". - Karaitiana Rarere, Ngati Kahungunu, 1916
- The Key!!!!!.
- The key to my heart is buried deep within. Enter my world if you dare, and if accepted, in return I'll show you I care. Honesty and trust are the way to my heart, you'll know if you qualify from the very start. All you have to do is be gentle and kind, I will show you a storybook, love no one else can find. So, enter with caution because i am scared, from those of the past who have already dared. They once had the key... and never truly cared.

Maori justice system solution proposed
Metiria Turei, MP
02 Apr 2009
Subjects: Justice, Maori issues
A parallel Maori justice system will be proposed by Green Party Law and Order/Maori Affairs Spokesperson Metiria Turei at tomorrow’s Crime Summit.
“Because Maori are more likely to be stopped and searched, arrested rather than cautioned, and receive higher sentences than Pakeha offenders, Maori crime and imprisonment rates are elevated,” Mrs Turei said today.
“The establishment of a Maori justice system that runs alongside the existing legal system – using the education system as a model – will help to eliminate the impact of this systemic racial profiling, reduce the unjust imprisonment of many Maori and stem Maori reoffending.”
The Government should work with Maori organisations and experts such as Moana Jackson to establish a tikanga Maori justice system, Mrs Turei said.
A Government policy of full employment, more investment in alternative education and training, a greater emphasis and restorative justice and keeping young people out of jail will also be advocated by Mrs Turei, at the Drivers of Crime ministerial meeting at Parliament.
“Maori are both over represented in criminal offending and victimisation, but the two are often linked because of the systemic racial profiling that unjustly criminalises Maori,” Mrs Turei said.
“I acknowledge the deep hurts of crime victims and understand their frustrations. But a vengeance-based justice system is not the answer. We need to think intelligently about what is actually going to work.
“Young people who aren’t in touch with their culture and feel alienated from wider society need education and training that works for them. Trade-based training that leads directly to jobs is a win-win situation for those young people and for New Zealand.
“Restorative justice and community-based sentences are great ways to make troubled young people face up to their crimes, reconnect with their communities and stay out of jail.
“Breaking the cycle of criminality makes sense economically as well as socially. Targeted interventions can make the difference between quickly getting a troubled youngster back onto the straight and narrow, or into a life of crime.
“That’s why we urgent need to properly resource alternative education and training, restorative and Maori justice programmes, and the Probation Service.”
Mrs Turei welcomed tomorrow’s Crime Summit: “It’s vital that we, as a country, have this important conversation about the drivers of crime. It’s equally important we consider solutions that actually work, rather than put the blinkers on and take the simplistic vengeful response.”

MP congratulates Tuhoe festival participants
Wednesday, 8 April 2009, 11:22 am
Press Release: The Maori Party
Waiariki MP congratulates Tuhoe festival participants
Te Ururoa Flavell - 8 April 2009
The MP for Waiariki - Te Ururoa Flavell - is congratulating Ngai Tuhoe for their remarkable record of holding festivals which have kept the iwi's traditions alive and relevant for the tribes young and old alike.
"The Ahurei or Tuhoe festival will be held at Ruatoki this weekend and if things run as normal about 15-thousand people will pass through the gates over the three days", says Mr Flavell.
"The first festival was organised 39 years ago by a group which included such Tuhoe luminaries as Boy Biddle and the late John Rangihau, and the aim was to bring urbanised Tuhoe back home to their roots. Well it's certainly done that."
"This weekend will see Tuhoe from around the motu competing in twenty different teams in kapa haka, debates and sports."
"The Ahurei used to be held annually but it simply got too big and came round very quickly so now it's held every two years. It is a remarkable example of an iwi getting its people together, renewing whakapapa links and just plain celebrating their Tuhoetanga. I intend being there and so will many, many other non-Tuhoe - it's such a great occasion" says Mr Flavell.
