The Futureheads formed in 2000, in Sunderland. More specifically, in Barry's garage really. The line-up of the band at that point was Jaff (Bass, Vocals), Barry Hyde (Guitar, Vocals), Ross Millard (Guitar, Vocals), and Peter Brewis, now of cerebral pop-masterpiece-

Third album ‘This Is Not The World’ was recorded in 3 weeks in the summer with super-producer Youth at his studio ‘Space Mountain’ in the Sierra Nevada mountain range in Andalusia. About as far away atmospherically as you can get from the bleak Scarborough farm in which they recorded ‘News And Tributes’, the band couldn’t help but be influenced by Youth’s enthusiasm, and describe the album as one of ‘defiance, optimism and joy.’

Keen to share the joy with fans, the band released 2 tracks as free downloads and played intimate shows in London and Sunderland at the end of 2007. They begin 2008 with a tour of uni venues and kick off the year with storming new single ‘The Beginning Of The Twist’, released March 10th.

Pre-Order The Futureheads New Album Now
Having just returned from a successful short tour of Germany, where shows were played with The Hives, Good Charlotte, Velvet Revolver and The Rifles, The Futuremen are gearing up this week for their appearance with Muse at the Royal Albert Hall in support of the Teenage Cancer Trust. Tickets for this show are sold out already and being a charity event we don’t have any to offer for competition but we’ll do our best to get some footage and live snaps for the website.

Ahead of that footage we have 2 live videos from the Germany tour, one from the Cologne Palladium and one from The Cologne Live Music Hall (check them out on the enclosed player), plus a whole host of photos on future-flickr.

As you may well be aware the Futureheads' third album ‘This Is Not The World’ will be released on May 26th via the band's own Nul Records.

A special edition of the album is available now for pre-order. Featuring a bonus DVD, this version of the album will contain street performances, acoustic tracks, a full live show from Brixton Academy, tour footage, in-depth interviews and a special gig played in Ross’s front room.

This special edition will only be available from thefutureheads.com and won’t be available in stores. To pre-order your copy now (which will be delivered on the day of release) simply visit the futureheads store.

RADIO HEART – Single #2

The follow up to ‘The Beginning Of The Twist’ will be the equally brilliant ‘Radio Heart’. Having received its first radio play last week thanks to Steve Lamacq, expect to hear it thundering out of your radio speakers very soon.

As announced a few weeks ago, The Futureheads will be hitting the road again in May & June. Tickets can be purchased from seetickets, ticketmaster or directly from thefutureheads.com. Dates are:

As before we are looking for people to come along to the shows on the tour and help out with the street team. Generally this will involve handing out badges and collecting email addresses, and maybe looking after the merchandise before the band come on.

Xfm Big Night Out Competition
This thursday (that’s the start of the 4-day Easter bank holiday weekend) sees The Futureheads hitting The Carling Academy Brixton for the Xfm Big Night Out.

Running from 9pm – 3am, the night will see the band both playing live and DJing during the course of the night, alongside live sets from One Night Only and Black Kids and DJ sets from Xfm legends like Alex Zane, Steve Harris, John Kennedy and Cheeky Pete.

Tickets are just £12.50 (available from the Xfm Xchange - 0871 222 1049 and the Brixton Academy box office - 0844 477 2000) and you can find out more from the Xfm Big Night Out Website.

We have 10 pairs of tickets to give away to the night. Simply email competitions@thefutureheads.com with the answer to the following question. All winners will be contacted by lunchtime on Wednesday 18th March.
