Tony Mowbray - I Feel Honoured To Manage This Great Club
i feel honoured to manage this great club
David Friel
TONY MOWBRAY was paraded as the new Celtic manager on Wednesday morning and told the club’s supporters he feels immensely honoured to be taking up the position.
The former Celtic player was officially unveiled to a packed press conference at Celtic Park and talked at length about his hopes for the future. He then met hundreds of fans who had braved the rain to greet him at the stadium entrance.
A popular figure among the Celtic faithful, he spoke with sincerity as he outlined his vision. His main priority will be to bring the SPL title back to Paradise, but he pledged to entertain at the same time.
“First and foremost, I want to say that I’m delighted, elated and hugely honoured to be sitting here today,” the new Celtic boss said. “I can’t wait to get started.
“I played here for four years in the 1990s when the club wasn’t at its real heights. When I left, I was overwhelmed by the support the Celtic family gave me. I was engulfed by thousands of goodwill messages and it left me with a feeling of warmth.
“When this opportunity arose, I felt drawn towards it really. The more I explored it, the more it felt right. There’s an emotional and professional pull. It’s an honour to be the Celtic manager.
“The support, the history and the tradition of Celtic - that’s what I hold close to me as football values. I fell in love with football at a young age and now I’m at a club that has always tried to give supporters entertainment – score goals, win trophies and play with panache.
“It just felt right for me and for the last while Celtic have been speaking to West Brom. That’s culminated with my appointment and I’m looking forward to putting my stamp and philosophy on this team.
“I will try to give the supporters, who show huge commitment, something back. Hopefully, they can enjoy watching their team have success.
“I understand the demands of winning at Celtic. I want to bring silverware and carry on the tradition of success. I look forward to the challenge of European football as well.
“That’s a new challenge for me, but working in the Premiership taught me a lot about the finer detail of competing at the highest level. That was a big learning curve and hopefully that will help Celtic in the SPL and Europe.” ( taken from www.celticfc.net )0 Comments 148 days

tommy tribute tickets on sale from monday
tommy tribute tickets on sale from monday
Newsroom Staff
TICKETS for the Tommy Burns Tribute match will go on sale from Monday, April 20 priced £15 for adults and £5 for concessions.
The tickets are available from the Ticket Office counter, online at www.celticfc.net or by calling 0871 226 1888.
However, tickets won’t be posted out until the week beginning May 4.
The Tribute Match is being staged in honour of Tommy Burns at Celtic Park on Sunday, May 31, 2009 (kick-off 2pm) and will feature the current Celtic first team against a Tommy Burns Select, including a host of former Celtic greats who played with and for Tommy during his glittering career as player and manager.
A truly nostalgic squad of Celtic legends have been lined up to join the Tommy Burns Select and pay tribute to their former team-mate, manager, mentor and friend.
Tommy sadly died on May 15, 2008 after a long and courageous battle against cancer and his passing was felt across the whole of Scottish football.
He served Celtic with distinction over many years as player, manager, Head of Youth and first-team coach, but always considered himself just to be a supporter who got lucky.
The Tribute Match will benefit the Burns family with donations also being made by the family to Celtic Charity Fund and the Tommy Burns Skin Cancer Trust, which has been established by Tommy’s daughters.
And on the day of the match, Rosemary Burns will also unveil a bronze sculpture of Tommy at the entrance to Celtic Park.
The sculpture, depicting Tommy’s life in football will be mounted on the wall of the stadium as Tommy becomes the inaugural inductee into an elite group of true Celtic Legends.
And, in a generous gesture, TicketMaster will return 60% of their normal fees back to the club as a donation to the charity0 Comments 208 days
