The videos down there are of us at Shennanigans on Paddy's Day last year... Rosie found them on YouTube, apparently uploaded by some random German tourist. Quality's awful, but enjoy anyway.

pointy feet pointy feet point them right and win the meet!!!

  • International Dance Comp

    Dancers

I got an e-mail this week asking our school if we would like to apply to compete as a club at an INTERNATIONAL dance comp. The comp is being held next year in Barcelona, Spain. we have up to 15 minutes to preform if we apply and are accepted.
    Time Limits
SOLO, DUO-TRIO, MAY NOT EXCEED 3 MINUTES IN LENGTH
LARGE GROUP, MAY BE UP TO 8 MINUTES IN LENGTH.
THE MAX EXHIBITION TIME IS 15 MINUTES for EACH DANCE GROUP.
I think that this would be a great experience for all our dancers although if we can go it will probably only be the teenagers and adults. The festival lasts 4 days and last year there were over 50 schools competing from 19 country's on 5 continents including Australia.
    Category Subjects:

:: Ballet - A routine where all dancers wear ballet slippers and execute ballet technique, whether classical, neo-classical or contemporary.

:: Ethnic/Folkloric - A routine consisting of dance styles of a particular ethnic group.

:: Hip Hop/Funk - A routine where the majority of the content is "street wise" jazz or contemporary jazz considered as hip-hop or funk.

:: Jazz - A routine where all dancers execute free form movement and styling characteristic of jazz dance whether in jazz or character shoes of any kind, half-soles or bare feet.

:: Lyrical - A routine where all dancers interpret the lyrics or mood (intent) of a song (with or without words). This form includes the use of legwork, balance, and facial and body emotion. Dancers may wear character shoes, lyrical shoes, half-soles, or be barefoot.

:: Modern - A routine that demonstrates balance, extension, isolation, and control using modern technique.

:: Musical Theater/Character - A routine interpreting a song from a "Broadway" or movie musical or a routine portraying a character from a play, movie, television show, or a stereotype (policeman, doctor, etc.) through any style of dance.

:: Open – A routine combining any two dance styles or a routine that does not fit any category listed. Routines may also be placed here IF you already have a routine with the same performer/performers in the same age division, subject category.

:: Pointe - A routine where all dancers wear pointe shoes and execute pointe technique, including contemporary pointe.

:: Song & Dance - A routine where contestant(s) sing as well as dance. Such routines must contain at least 30% singing without background voices. Ø Lip sync does not qualify as singing.

:: Tap - A routine where all dancers wear tap shoes and execute tap technique.

Schools and Dance Groups are welcome to participate in many CATEGORY SUBJECTS competition.

PLEASE READ AND COMMENT IF YOU THINK WE SHOULD PARTICIPATE AS THE DEADLINE TO APPLY IN FEBRUARY 10TH

  • Convention Centre Weekend Performance

Those of you dancers that are able to come to the Saturday and Sunday at the convention centre here is some information for you:

    Saturday 3:30pm start
Though you should be there around 3:00pm so that we can make sure everyone knows what they are doing

    Sunday 1:30pm start
Again better to be there earlier as the sunday performance will consist of different dances

    Practice Beforehand
The room is booked on this Friday allowing for a good practice before the displays.
If you can make it that would be great, but if not try and run through these dances to make sure you are confident enough. An exact list of dances has not been made yet but here are the ones you should know:
(This is going by the rose of Tralee Schedule)

*2 hand, 3 hand, An Rince Mor
*Your solo reel (e.g. Primary, Open.. Whichever you dance as you may asked to dance it)
*St Patricks Day (For those that know it, not a definant dance)
    *Bonfire
    *Fairy Reel
    *Big Jigs
    *Siamsa
    *Cry of the Celts

The time that the room is available on the Friday is:
    6:00pm to 7:00pm

Wow great job at St. Patricks Day yesterday guys!

Even though the patrons were not that drunk in the morning at Shennanigans they got into it well didnt they, hehe. Specially the group that came in later and started dancing around near where i was sitting inside.

I think the displays at the day care went well also, Amy was extremley cute teaching her friends the circle dance! And the ones that were at the ABC Learning Centre were adorable, that little one that kept spinning was soo cute!!

The last performance at Virginia Tavern was very good! even though we were all abit tired from dancing all day (good on ya Rosie, keeping the irish vibe alive at school!) <(^W^)>

Anyway, hopefully we can get some pictures up soon, these photos will also be available on the website:
