Dancers
I got an e-mail this week asking our school if we would like to apply to compete as a club at an INTERNATIONAL dance comp. The comp is being held next year in Barcelona, Spain. we have up to 15 minutes to preform if we apply and are accepted.
Time Limits
SOLO, DUO-TRIO, MAY NOT EXCEED 3 MINUTES IN LENGTH
LARGE GROUP, MAY BE UP TO 8 MINUTES IN LENGTH.
THE MAX EXHIBITION TIME IS 15 MINUTES for EACH DANCE GROUP.
I think that this would be a great experience for all our dancers although if we can go it will probably only be the teenagers and adults. The festival lasts 4 days and last year there were over 50 schools competing from 19 country's on 5 continents including Australia.
Category Subjects:
:: Ballet - A routine where all dancers wear ballet slippers and execute ballet technique, whether classical, neo-classical or contemporary.
:: Ethnic/Folkloric - A routine consisting of dance styles of a particular ethnic group.
:: Hip Hop/Funk - A routine where the majority of the content is "street wise" jazz or contemporary jazz considered as hip-hop or funk.
:: Jazz - A routine where all dancers execute free form movement and styling characteristic of jazz dance whether in jazz or character shoes of any kind, half-soles or bare feet.
:: Lyrical - A routine where all dancers interpret the lyrics or mood (intent) of a song (with or without words). This form includes the use of legwork, balance, and facial and body emotion. Dancers may wear character shoes, lyrical shoes, half-soles, or be barefoot.
:: Modern - A routine that demonstrates balance, extension, isolation, and control using modern technique.
:: Musical Theater/Character - A routine interpreting a song from a "Broadway" or movie musical or a routine portraying a character from a play, movie, television show, or a stereotype (policeman, doctor, etc.) through any style of dance.
:: Open – A routine combining any two dance styles or a routine that does not fit any category listed. Routines may also be placed here IF you already have a routine with the same performer/performers in the same age division, subject category.
:: Pointe - A routine where all dancers wear pointe shoes and execute pointe technique, including contemporary pointe.
:: Song & Dance - A routine where contestant(s) sing as well as dance. Such routines must contain at least 30% singing without background voices. Ø Lip sync does not qualify as singing.
:: Tap - A routine where all dancers wear tap shoes and execute tap technique.
Schools and Dance Groups are welcome to participate in many CATEGORY SUBJECTS competition.

Those of you dancers that are able to come to the Saturday and Sunday at the convention centre here is some information for you:
Saturday 3:30pm start
Though you should be there around 3:00pm so that we can make sure everyone knows what they are doing
Sunday 1:30pm start
Again better to be there earlier as the sunday performance will consist of different dances
Practice Beforehand
The room is booked on this Friday allowing for a good practice before the displays.
If you can make it that would be great, but if not try and run through these dances to make sure you are confident enough. An exact list of dances has not been made yet but here are the ones you should know:
