Big Al's Superstars
In memory of our lost comrade we decided to dedicate our football season to the memory of what some would say is a great man (maybe not Ashley). But say what you will, there is no disputing the fact that he was a great big man.
And so it was fitting that the team went on to become a great big team, one of the greatest UUC had ever seen, a formidable force that made their opponents shake with fear.
Jamie - A goalkeeper with such stopping ability and alertness, some say he has physic powers, not many goals were scored against Big Al’s. And that’s a fact.
Richie – The rock in defense, tirelessly patrolled the back line with runs forward that genuinely posed an attacking threat.
Tim – If Richie was the rock, then Tim was the roll. Together they made an impenetrable defense. Enthusiastically tackled and wasn’t afraid to get stuck in.
Geoffro – The tactical genius of the team, knew when to pass and when to shoot. Scored a wonder goal in the Champion’s League that boosted the team’s confidence at a time when they were 3-2 down. Final score 5-3 to Big Al’s.
Oran – The big man up front, displayed enormous strength on the ball which gave him time to create the openings to shoot. No wonder he finished the league’s top scorer.
Joe – This quick footed man confused many a defense, darting this way and that, passing this way and that, continuously running and scoring an impressive number of goals.
Madden – A real trooper, with the skills to go with it. Hard to believe then he’s from Tyrone, but his county would be proud, played an important role in the team, also dangerous on the attack.
Me – I played my role.
Together we ruled the football pitch, and more than that, we got some great memories.
Of course, not forgetting our fans who provided us with spectacular support throughout the year, even though I'm sure the WAGs got and a bit annoyed sometimes about all the time their men spent training. Paula, Ashely, Claire, Una
