    Petition news

You may remember receiving an email (or several !) from us in April asking you to sign a petition raised by former ProjectScotland volunteer, Kimby Tosh.

The petition is now closed and an amazing 1177 people supported Kimby in her mission to ask the Scottish Government to implement a national youth volunteering policy for Scotland. Well done Kimby, and a mammoth pat on the back for everyone’s support in signing the petition.

Kimby’s petition will go before the Petition’s Committee at the beginning of November.

PETITION- OFFICE MOVE- SOCIAL NETWORKING- EMAIL OF THE MONTH

So here we are creeping into September and waving goodbye to the last of the summer- or at least what we Scots call summer, but what’s been going on over the past month with ProjectScotland…

Kimby Tosh who is a former ProjectScotland volunteer who did her placement with SCYD in Blairgowrie launched a petition on behalf of ProjectScotland calling on the Scottish Parliament to urge the Scottish Government to demonstrate how it supports national youth volunteering opportunities, and to develop and implement a national youth volunteering policy for Scotland. Thank you all for your support in signing our petition and by raising the awareness of ProjectScotland and the petition. So far we have over 700 signatures but we’ll keep going until the 17th of September, so if you haven’t signed yet GET YOUR NAME ON IT!

    We've moved!

ProjectScotland also said goodbye to their old west end office and moved to sunny Leith! One week on and it’s starting to feel like home. You can find our new address at the bottom of this newsletter.

    Social Networking news

If you haven’t added us yet on Bebo or Facebook it’s about time you did! August was the last month for the ‘Email of the Month’ and starting this September we will be piloting a new competition where two of the best bloggers of the month will receive a £25 high street voucher! All you need to do is add us as a friend on our Bebo or Facebook Group pages and get blogging!

So if you can write at least 100 words, or make a short video (mobile camera phones are perfect), or even take a photo every other day of what you’re involved in then you’d be perfect for our ProjectScotland blogger of the month competition!

    Email of the month

    Hi There,

I first heard of Project Scotland when I was on the Prince’s Trust Team Programme in Clydebank. I had always been interested in working in the outdoors and after I took part in a Teambuilding residential I enquired about working in an outdoor centre.

So I contacted Project Scotland and they helped me to set up my placement at the Lochgoilhead Scout and Outdoor Centre where I have been a Trainee instructor. I have been there since November 08 and during my time there I have learned loads of new skills and have been working towards my instructor qualifications. The placement has given me more confidence to succeed and my outlook on life is a lot more positive. I have made lots of new friends and I have been places and did things I never thought possible.

I would like to thank Project Scotland for supporting me and giving me the chance to better myself.

    Regards,

    Pamela Ralston

    Thanks for that Pamela!

  • Almost finished...

So it's been almost 5 months since I started at ProjectScotland HQ, and my time here is drawing to a close, only got 3 more days to go, sniff sniff.

I've been really busy the past month getting ready for the 2009 Voscars award ceremony. Helping out has allowed me to be involved in loads of really fun film & photo shoots. Who would've thought I'd be in the BBC assisting the producer for this years Voscar film a few months ago? But hey there I was assisting the production team holding the mic. It's been great to learn how a film is made.

ProjectScotland's photographer was along with us too, capturing the spirit of ProjectScotland volunteers for the brochure- and everybody looked amazing just so you know.

It's been fab getting out meeting other volunteers, and being part of the P-SCOT creative team, it's going to be sad leaving this week.

In the meantime I've got to keep going with the design for the Voscars brochure, which I'm designing!

A bit scarey as it's a booklet design and I've never really done anything as big as this before, but it should be a great portfolio piece and am thankfull to have been given the opportunity to do it.

    Peace & Love

  • My experience so far

    Craig Anderson door Craig Anderson
Just an introduction into the first 2 months of my Project Scotland Experience.

I started working with Chest Heart & Stroke Scotland at the beginning of August after being put in touch by Project Scotland. The title of the placement is “Marketing, Fundraising and Campaigning Volunteer”, but it has encompassed so much more already. It’s hard to believe how quickly the time has gone in; I’ve just about finished my second month of six! Unbelievable! It’ll soon be time to pack up and say goodbye it’s going in so fast. The last month and a bit have been really great and I am already feeling like I’ve learned a lot and experienced even more. It’s quite hard to remember all the things I’ve done so far, but I’ll give it a try.

The charity holds a large number of events throughout the year and the first event that I got a chance to work on was the Ladies Driving Challenge, held in Ingliston. I was lucky as my mentor within the charity, Andrea, was organising the event so I got a real hands on look at event organising and also got to contribute in a significant way. I had a variety of tasks in the lead up to the event including: designing signs for the course, contacting companies for donations for our goody bags, designing a questionnaire and writing numerous e-mails that were sent to all of the participants. I really enjoyed the creative writing side and had a lot of fun with the e-mails.

On the day itself I was given the task of marshal, taking a team round the course and making sure that they stuck to the allotted times of each vehicles. There were six stations in total around the course including, buses, artic lorries, a seven person conference bike, a fire engine, a police car and large diggers. The event was a lot of fun and everyone I spoke to seemed to have a fantastic time. It was a long day, but totally worth it. Since the event I’ve been working on the feedback gained from the questionnaires I made. This has kept me busy and also added another aspect to the placement, allowing me to see the event from every angle.

There are more events planned but I won’t have the same amount of involvement in them. I’m extremely happy with how the last 7-8 weeks have gone and with a new project to focus on it should be another fun few months!

  • What I've been doing

    Hey,

So what's been going on at ProjectScotland HQ this past week?
Well I've had a particularly busy week!
Had my first encounter with ProjectScotland's board members- which I'll tell you was a pretty nerve wracking experience, however they were all very friendly and welcomed my presentation on Social Media with warm smiles. I've not done a presentation in about a year & a half, so was a little nervous, but I enjoyed the challenge of presenting to the board and definetly feel a sense of achievement as feels like I've got back on the horse!
Was out at Kirckaldy YMCA on Thursday to see some fellow ProjectScotland volunteers finishing up their placements. These guys where getting photographed and interviewed by The Courier newspaper, but everyone ended up the photo's and I even got interviewed myself! We'll have to see what he ends up writing...
On Friday I was out at The Union advertising agency in the morning for a meeting about possible new marketing materials being produced. This was an interesting experience as I have a design background, so was a real insight into how a client agent meeting is conducted. It's this kind of thing you just don't learn at uni or school, being their in the flesh was so much more informative than a textbook can be.

In the afternoon I was really excited about the photographer and film maker coming in to discuss Voscar & Moscar photo and film shoots! We had a chat about various locations that would be unique for filming and photographing in, decisions have been made but you'll just have to wait to see where have been picked! Though I'm sure you'll agree the locations are pretty awsome.

So that was my week at ProjectScotland! Pretty damn good!
