- Many times Morgoth essayed to smite him, and each time Fingolfin leaped away, as a lightning shoots from under a dark cloud;and he wounded Morgoth with seven wounds, and seven times Morgoth gave a cry of anguish, whereat the hosts of Angband fell upon there faces in dismay, and the crys echoed in the Northlands. But the earth was all rent and pitted about him, and he stumbled and fell backward before the feet of Morgoth; and Morgoth set his left foot upon his neck, and the weight of it was like a fallen hill. Yet with his last stroke Fingolfin hewed the foot with Ringil, and blood gushed forth black and smoking and filled the pits of Grond. Thus died Fingolfin, High King of the Noldor, most proud and valiant of the Elven Kings of old.

Well it proves that he cannot completly control the Ring but that was obvious the only one with that power is Sauron but ya it is annoying I mean I remember hearing that Tom and Goldberry were just a nod to the hippies that were around at the time of publication but....

Tom is a free spirit and from Valinor most definitely but because he doesn't concern himself with the problems of middle earth he is not affected or controlled by them, and that must include the ring? Maybe he a spirit like Sauron himself but chose a different path?

i just got a box set of the first series of books he done. i don't know much about the garth nix so i don't know if he's wrote another series or not.
i'm sure he's done about 4 books to my knowledge but i got the first three in a cool lil box set =] -
