BASEMENT GIG INFO
JAY B Promotions are a non-profit company, working as a collective to bring new bands & established groups to our venues. We make no money from our shows as we share out door money at the end of the night once we have covered our operating costs.
There will be NO printed tickets for shows at the venue as all performances will be made 'pay at the door'. Bands playing the venue for the 1st time will be asked to pay a minimal £30 deposit (the price of 7 tickets) which will be returned after the show if the band bring a minimum of 20 people to the performance.
This is not a pay-to-play operation as we only use the deposit scheme to deter bands who only want to treat their shows as an extra rehearsal. There are many of them out there. We have promoted them & we're sure you have played alongside them at various venues.
Bands who bring over 20 fans will be offered further shows without having to pay a deposit & will also be offered shows in Glasgow by our sister company Mystic Eventz.
All correspondance will be done via email & text to keep our costs at a minimum, so please keep checking your emails & text messages for any updates on your show. Once we have confirmed your show we will send an email contract to you. This is just a basic contract giving us the promoters & you the performers piece of mind that you will turn up for the gig & we will allow you to perform.
Bands should notify us as soon as possible if they are unable to make their performance date. Failure to do so will result in said band being banned from performing at the venue and that information being passed onto other venues and promoters.
Bands will be rewarded for self promotion. It is therefore in your best interest to bring as many fans as possible to your gig. For a typical 4 band bill, the first 20 admission sales directed towards each individual band will cover ALL costs. Each band will have a separate till button allocated to them at the door so it is important that you tell your fans to state who they are coming to see. Thereafter bands will receive a percentage of sales:
Promoter receives 100% revenue of
Admission Sales between 0-88
Bands receives 100% revenue of
Admission Sales from 89+ (plus their deposit returned if they bring 20 people to the show)
Consider the venue & promoter's prospective as well. We cannot afford to have an entire show made up of bands that draw 10 of their closest friends either. We do not exist and pay the high costs of our overheads just to give a band with no real fan base a place to play, that is how venues & promoters go out of business.
If you are an opening band at a venue & you are not under any direst to sell tickets to play the show, do whatever you can to promote the show and make it a success. You will become an asset to the venue & promoter because your band is one that goes above and beyond to help the shows you are on be a total success.
All Admission Sales after 10:15pm will go to the Venue.
Admission also includes entry to after-show club.
LOAD-IN is at 6:00pm prompt.
Bands must have at least one representative available or their performance may be cancelled without notice.
PA & engineer will be supplied by DIABLO SOUND HIRE.
The rig will be a 5K Turbosound Floodlight system.

ULTIMATE GIG SURVIVAL GUIDE
So you've diligently honed a set of all-killer, no-filler tunes in the practice room, and now it's time to take your chances in front of a throng of sweaty punters at the BASEMENT.
Here is our definitive guide to the do's and don'ts of gig etiquette…
SHARING GEAR
Do communicate with the others bands on the bill before the evening of the gig to find out what backline will be shared on the night. It's common for a headline band to let support acts share drum shells and stands – but not breakables such as snare, cymbals etc – the bass rig and often guitar speaker cabs.
Don't assume that you will be able to share gear and turn up with minimal kit unless you have agreed in advance. It should be easy to get contact numbers or email addresses for the other acts on the bill from the promoter or the venue, and it's common courtesy to ask first.
Do bring as many spares as you can, but should something go down on the night and leave you stranded, be prepared to do a bit of grovelling and drink-buying if you need to ask to borrow someone else's gear at extremely short notice. The headline act didn't splash out thousands on their kit so that you could use it.
SOUNDCHECK
Do turn up at the venue on time, and be tuned-up and ready to take to the stage when the sound engineer needs you.
Don't be obnoxious towards the sound engineer. He/she will be controlling the front-of-house levels during your set, so it's common sense to treat them courteously.
Do set your amplifiers to sensible volume levels on stage. Moderate levels allow the engineer to have more control over the overall front-of-house balance and mean that monitors don't need to be pushed to levels where they begin to feed back in order for singers to hear themselves.
Don't treat soundcheck as a free rehearsal and jam incessantly. One or two short songs should provide more than enough opportunity for the sound engineer to set up a decent mix. Guitarists: when the sound engineer is tweaking the bass drum sound, he/she doesn't want you to be playing blazing lead lines at the same time.
SHOWTIME
Do write a set list. Unless you're Bob Dylan or playing free jazz with a heavy improvisational element to your performances, write down the songs you are playing and the order you are playing them in.
Whole books have been written about the arcane art of set list pacing, but generally it's advisable to open with something hooky and punchy that will demand the audience's attention.
Do tune quickly and silently between songs. Buy an electronic tuner with an easily-visible display – such as the BOSS TU-2 – and trust it. The audience don't want to hear you tuning and it gives a sloppy, amateurish impression. While the guitarist or bassist tunes up it gives the singer an ideal opportunity to crack a joke or, if they aren't a natural raconteur, plug the band's website or merchandise.
Don't take an age to pack your gear away. Unless you are the headline act, the next band wants to get onstage before the audience drift away and lose interest. There will be plenty of time for excessive alcohol consumption and chatting up groupies once your equipment is off stage.
Do take the time to get to know the other bands on the bill and check out their sets. Who knows, they might even ask you to play with them in future, and it could be the start of a mutually-beneficial gig-swapping relationship.0 Comments 30 days

Sorry we can't do that date, is there anything later?
I'm very sorry to say that we will be unable to perform on the 26th due to travel complications on that particular day.
Thank you for the opportunity and sending us all of the relevant information whenever we needed it.
We hope that we got to you in time and that we might be able to play another time during a weekend slot and enjoy playing at what looks like a great venue.
Again, we are very sorry for any inconvenience that this has caused.
San Salvador.
Yeah we'd love to fill in

)

sorry mate we can't make it
I'm sorry but due to difficulties in transport and lack of planning, we will have to cancel this gig as it has proven too difficult to organise how to get down. Thank you for giving us a slot to play at and maybe we could play at a weekend slot instead some other time. You have provided good information and sorry we havent been keeping in contact as much as we could have.
Thanks again. San Salvador.
