- Hi, my name is Paul. Formerly Paul King, I recently changed my name to Paul Nexus. Has more of an edge to it. Plus it has been an online name and nickname for some time.
What can I say about myself? I am known for my humour, some good, some just plain stupid. I am a very headstrong guy, not easily manipulated or bossed about, some may say stubborn. Others just say I am an awkward git.
I spend a lot of my time playing my guitar and have been devoted for 6-7 years now.
I was recently employed by the Co-op, unfortunately my store closed. I am currently in the middle of the Royal Marines selection process. This,of course, will be updated at some point.
Anyway you can contact me on msn, paulnexus@hotmail.com.
- Music
- Punk / Rock: Goldfinger, The Offspring, Blink 182, Green Day, Sum 41. A bit of Evanescence. Pretty much anything will do if I'm out at a club pissed.
- Films
- Screamers, the Die Hard films, the Star Wars saga, other Science Fiction / Action films.
- Sports
- I enjoy golf and tenpin bowling. I dislike football. I am in to general fitness training, such as running, upper body excersises etc. Not quite a sport but...
I do like to watch the Ultimate Fighting Championship on Sky. Nothing like a couple of guys brutally mangling each other... - Scared Of
- Failure, losing my intellect.
I also have a rather irrational fear of people getting inside my head. Those of you that know me well probably will not be surprised.
I am not afraid of spiders, per se, but certain household spiders just give me the creeps. Tarantulas are good, I can hold them. - Happiest When
- Running a lot. Training. Also when playing my guitar, playing my X-Box 360. Outsmarting people. Threatening through use of physical violence.
I also enjoy long evening walks, generally in solitude, though I have on past occasions shared these with close companions. I enjoy these walks because it gives me time to reflect on the magnitude of my life, where it is headed and what to do in compliance with my goals. - Greatest feats
- Outsmarted everyone I know. Lifted an 18 stone man over my head. Discovered that I will probably live forever, either through good health or sheer will. Completed a 7 mile run in less than 50 minutes.

Back on track
I had my Royal Marines interview and medical on December 2nd. Passed both, the highlight having to do press ups in my boxers in the doctor's office
I have my fitness test on the 17th at Carn Brea. 1.5 miles in 12.5 minutes, rest for 1 minutes then another 1.5 miles in under 10.5 minutes. I have been training with this in mind so should tackle it relatively easily.
Hopefully, upon passing the fitness test, I should get book on to the Potential Royal Marines Course in the new year, a 3 day selection course to judge potential candidates for training.
These are the last two stages before beginning the toughest infantry training course in the world.0 comentarios 361 días

Mnior setback, but the path continues
A minor setback in my plans, I have been told I have to wait until October to continue any further with my application for the Royal Marines. From the beginning! Nothing to offer me at this time, which I can't blame them. I work 20 hours per week and that is all.
It's just another 4 and a half months. I will use that time to become even fitter and stronger. I'm also going to improve my chances of success by taking up boxing and possibly volunteering as a Police Special Constable. I am also being considered for a promotion at work. All this will help me for when October hits.
The important thing is to not lose sight of my objective which is the completion of the most gruelling training program in the world and getting that green beret at the end. And of course to focus on those four Commando qualities: Fitness, determination, unselfishness and cheerfulness in the face of adversity.
Thank you for reading.0 comentarios 557 días

One small step at a time
I finally have my Royal Marines interview on May 1st. A great excuse to get out of work. Providing my recruiter sees me as suitable to go further I will need to complete a Pre-Joining Fitness Test, which is a 1.5 mile run in under 10 minutes, most likely conducted at Carn Brea.
Providing I pass that, which I am pretty confident I will, I will need to attend a Potential Royal Marines Course. This course lasts for 3 days, based at the Commando Training Centre Royal Marines in Lympstone, Devon and is the same place that Royal Marines recruits undertake 8 months of commando training.
The course is by no means simple. Both for potential recruits to see what the Royal Marines are all about and part of the selection process, only those that pass the criteria tests are then passed on to mainstream training. The course includes a 3 mile run, various gym and upper body tests, as well as an assault course and additional interview.
Providing I pass that, which again I am fairly confident I can, I will then begin 8 months of Royal Marines Commando recruit training.
All this could be happening within the next 2-3 months so I am rather excited right now.0 comentarios 586 días
