- WELCOME ABOARD!
Appledore lifeboat station is home to two lifeboats - an Atlantic 75 inshore lifeboat (ILB) and a Tyne class All weather lifeboat (ALB). We also have a third boat - a "Boarding Boat" to access the moored Tyne. She too has been involved in her fair share of rescues.
We hope that this web site will be of interest to you. If you have news, views or photographs relating in any way to Appledore RNLI then please use the email address at the bottom of the page - we would love to hear from you. (And please sign the Guestbook).
Appledore Lifeboat station and its boats were paid for in the main from Voluntary contributions by individuals and groups. Though the crews are fully trained by the RNLI to a very high standard, they are volunteers and do not charge for their time.
The RNLI's aim is to saved lives - but we need your help too. You can make a donation. You can arrange an event in aid of your lifeboat or you could consider becoming a crew member if you live clo

THE R.N.L.I
Since the RNLI was founded in 1824, its lifeboats have saved more than 137,000 lives. In 2007 RNLI lifeboats rescued 8,141 people - an average of 22 people per day. Saving 306 lives. RNLI Lifeguards assisted 9,201 people, saving 62 lives. Volunteer crew members come from all walks of life and readily exchange leisure, comfort and sleep for cold, wet and fatigue. Their lifesaving work is essential, often difficult and sometimes dangerous. The RNLI also aims to save lives by changing attitudes and behaviour among people who use the sea regularly.
It also educates children and young people on how they can help and stay safe on or by the sea. These days, less than 10% of crew members come from maritime backgrounds. So it is essential that the RNLI provides first class training to make sure its crews have the skills they need to save lives. Our running costs averaged around £330,000 (€484,510) per day in 2005. For every £1 raised, 78p was spent on operations, 3p was spent on support and 19p was spent on fundraising
