  • Happy New Year!

2010 is now fast approaching. As the new year approaches it is a good time to look back at an important year for the band, and prepare for the work ahead as we continue to move forward.

There have been many highlights during 2009, including playing at the Romanian Othordox Church celebrations, attended by the head of the Romainian Orthox Church and the Romanian Ambassador, playing various local events, and our own Ceilidh, where our learners showed how they are progressing by playing.

We made some major steps this year. Those who are eligible played in the Boys' Brigade competitions. They had a respectable 3rd place in Glasgow Battalions Pipeband contest, and followed that at the Scottish Contest with a first place in the Novice Mini Band contest. Various members picked up awards at Glasgow Battalions Solo contests for both drumming and piping.

The biggest step the band took was entering RSPBA contests for the first time. We entered our first contest at Lesmahagow Highland Games. We then played at the World Championships at Glasgow Green. This was a steep learning curve for the band with most of the band never having competed before. This experience will help us in the coming season.

I look forward to the new challenges we will have in 2010. The new competition set is coming along and I am sure we will build on the achievements of 2009. I look forward to the new compeition season, and entering more contest.

Congratulations, and thanks to the members of the band, and everybody who has supported the band in the last year. Special thanks to the two Jims, Robert and Paula for there help tutoring and improving the sound of the band. Without your help we would still be talking about competing for the first time. Thank you to you all.

Can I wish you all a Happy New Year when it comes. See You all in the new year.

I have the CD with all the Worlds photos on them if anyone wants a copy. I've tried uploading them on here, but for some reason the site won't cooperate and I've only got some of the drummers' pictures on, no pipers. Maybe the people who run bebo recognise real musicians when they see them???

Just wanted to say well done to everyone for competing at Lesmahagow, you have all helped me achieve one of my ambitions, when I started on the journey to learn the pipes I never thought I would actually play in a competition.
