  • Spike Milligan's Adolf Hitler: My Part In His Downfall

Adapted for the stage by Ben Power and Tim Carroll
A man called Chamberlain who did Prime Minister impressions spoke on the wireless; he said, ‘As from eleven o'clock we are at war with Germany'. (I loved the ‘we'). ‘War?' said Mother. ‘It must be something we said,' said Father...

A hilarious and irreverent romp through Spike Milligan's WWII adventures, with comedy, live music, and barrack room humour!
Spike Milligan's celebrated war memoirs are finally brought to the stage. This anarchic odyssey charts Gunner Milligan's progress through World War Two - and with Spike's sense of lunacy, anything can happen along the way! High comedy and tragedy collide, as we follow him and his jazz quartet, adrift on the tide of great historic events. Using Milligan's own words, the show joyously fuses comedy, song and dance - showing how humour, music and comradeship enabled a hapless bunch of young men to prevail against the might of the Nazi War machine.

With Matt Devereaux, William Findley, Dominic Gerrard, Sholto Morgan and David Morley Hale
“A joyously funny, gloriously ramshackle evening that reminds us that the war was the matrix of Milligan's comic imagination.” - Guardian **** (click quote to see full review)

"Entertainingly off-beat... Was it the British sense of humour that finally saw off Adolf Hitler? This show puts the case, brilliantly" - Daily Telegraph **** (click quote to see full review)

    WARNING Contains barrack room humour

  • Town Hall Theatre & The Cork Opera House Present: 'The Lonesome West' - By Martin McDonagh

    Cork Opera House
    Monday 21 – Sat 26 Sept at 8pm

From the acclaimed writer of In Bruges and The Beauty Queen of Leenane
comes a play that is simply extraordinary. From the creative team that presented Lieutenant of Inishmore (2006/07) and Juno & the Paycock (2008) comes a first class production. Team with an award-winning cast and The Lonesome West is sure to be the most disturbing, poignant and hilariously entertaining play you will ever see.

Valene and Coleman, two brothers living alone in their father’s house after his
recent death, find it impossible to exist without the most massive and violent
disputes over the most mundane and innocent of topics. Only Father Welsh,
the local young priest, is prepared to try to reconcile the two before their
petty squabbling spiral into vicious and bloody carnage.

This comedy is a black as you can expect from McDonagh however the chaos and conflict makes for a hysterical rollercoaster ride.

    Directed by Andrew Flynn
Starring: Owen McDonnell; John Olohan; Samantha Healy and Michael McIlhatton
Set Design by Owen MacCarthaigh; Costumes by Petra Breathnach; Lighting Design by Adam Fitzsimons; Sound Design by Jack Cawley
