Here's a little review of an old song me and Cheesie recoreded ages ago. I just found it randomly on the net! Here it is in full...

"The Stubborn Stains supply some lo-fi shouty guitar rock in the shape of the short and spiky 'Eomann Holmes' Garden Gnomes' ."

Awesome!

Usually when people are sad, they don't do anything. They just cry over their condition. But when they get angry, they bring about a change.

  • K2

So, whilst on my lunch today I read an article in the Independent about the tragedy that happened on K2 earlier in the month. Didn't expect much from it but it turned out to be a compelling read. I was amazed at some of the statistics quoted.
For example, only 284 people have ever made it to the summit and survived whilst a further 66 have perished trying or, as in most cases, whilst descending from the summit. Incredible as that is on its own, the article then went on to point out that, based on these numbers, you have a better chance of survival playing Russian roulette!
Then it went on to quite a bit of detail about the tragedy itself. I was more or less floored by the experience the climbers involved went through. Sleeping rough on the mountain side in the 'Dead Zone' for two nights or climbing down a sheer incline to find three other climbers hanging by rope, two upside down, who the night before you'd thought were dead, were, in fact, alive are just two of the stories. The stories of those who, sadly, didn't survive was a mixed ride of bad luck, heroism and unfortunate timing. In at least one case, the bodies still remain on the mountain, such was the scale of what happened. Remarkably, a veteran climber who wasn't involved claimed that, as serious climbers, dying on K2 certainly wasn't the worst way to go!

Anyway, when was the last time I briefly retold a newspaper article on here? I'm pretty sure this is the first, which gives you some idea of how much that article grabbed me.
There's no moral here I'm afraid, just an incredible story, something I'm sure Hollywood will thieve and make a poor movie out of! Oh well, just another case of 'stick with the original story' I guess.
