Campbell Congratulates Lanarkshire Web Initiative
Aileen Campbell, SNP MSP for South of Scotland, has lodged a
motion in the Scottish Parliament congratulating Carstairs
Junction resident Arthur Grainger on his initiative to create
social networking sites for towns across Lanarkshire, including
those in the Clydesdale area of the South of Scotland region [1].
The sites, built around networking site Bebo, allow local
residents and people from further afield to connect together to
share news about events and what’s happening across the area.
Sites include www.bebo.com/lanarkweb, www.bebo.com/carlukeweb
and www.bebo.com/larkhallweb, as well as sites for Carstairs
Junction, Biggar, and towns and villages across North and South
Lanarkshire. As well as individuals, local organisations and
businesses including newspapers and radio stations are able to
link into the sites.
Commenting, Aileen Campbell MSP said:
“Setting up all these sites has been a fantastic achievement by
Arthur, and I am delighted to recognise this with a motion in
the Scottish Parliament.
“Used carefully, social networking sites are a great way of
joining up individuals and organisations. Dedicated sites for
so many of the towns and villages across Lanarkshire and the
Clyde Valley will bring news and information closer to local
residents that ever before. Of course the internet can’t
always replace traditional media, but this helps to join things
up in a new and imaginative way.
“I would encourage anyone with access to the internet to check
these sites out and if they are part of the network, to sign up
and show their support.”

Agreed Alexander. Coulter and the surrounding area, particularly the hills to the south of the village are very nice. Indeed, when walking or driving through them, it is easy to forget that you are still in Lanarkshire and less than an hour from Glasgow and Edinburgh. Those who don't know the area and are seeing photographs of the reserviors and hills think that the pictures were taken in the southern highlands. I often go walking through the Cowgill pass, past the Lamington hill and back again (though the seagulls can be intimidiating) - then afterwards I drive to Biggar for lunch.
i love this place its up a cowgill rez
Merry Christmas to everyone on in the Coulter area. Thanks for using this Bebo page for your community. Don't forget that you can also contribute photos, news and information for your community on here. Send them to me via Bebo mail and I will endeavour to put it up as soon as I can. Have a great Christmas and all the best for 2010.
GAZETTE NEWS: Read the article regarding this and other community Bebos in the Lanark/Carluke Gazette (June 4th), Page 7. Also, see photos in the pull-out section for this year's Primary 7 pupils. GALA DAY PHOTOS APPEAL: Although I won't be able to attend your village gala and fun day celebrations (because I have to host and compare at another village gala day), if you wish to put your gala photos on this bebo site, please send them in and I will include them and credit you for it. I am particularly looking for fancy dress photos, gardens and the crowning ceremony. Thanks in advance.
NEWS(ish): As promised, photos of the steam train that ran through our countryside have been posted up. Visit www.bebo.com/carstairsjunctionweb and view the folder titled Steam Train at Carstairs 9th April 2009.
NEWS: Thursday 9th April. World renowned steam train stopping at Abington and Carstairs. You might want to get your cameras and take pictures. The LMS Royal Scot (which is an ancient steam train, from the days our great grandads worked on the railways, probably) will be stopping at a few stations and places in Lanarkshire. So the afternoon will see a lot of railway enthusiasts and trainspotters by the railway and possibly taking advantage of some of our amenities and business, so we welcome them. www.uksteam.info/tours/t09/t0409a.htm gives details of times - and according to it, the steam train (LMS Royal Scot) will be stopping at Abington between 4.30pm and 5.08pm, then stops at Carstairs Station between 5.26pm and 5.39pm (if it runs on time, of course). I will try and get some photos and post them on here.
