Evolution are a rock band from Tralee we a mixture of rock, punk, indie rock and hard rock. The band formed in late 2008 with original members Dusko Kovac, Kieran Ryan, David Smith and Staff, Practiced for 4 months before having our first gig in front of 120 people the KDYS Tralee at the locally famous Fairtrade Gig on March 13th 2009.
Shortly after the Fairtrade gig Staff had to leave the band but was replaced by now current bassist Cormac O' Sullivan.
Evolution played in the KDYS on Friday nights throughout the summer before auditioning for "Kerry's Got Talent" in the Fels Point Hotel in Tralee in late July, we performed our song "Same Man" without a mic and were still one of 40 acts chosen to go into the Semi Finals that were going to be held in Siamsa Tire in which the winner would recieve a prize of performing their act during the Rose Of Tralee festival in August. We performed our song Rolling Dice in front of the 300+ crowd in the Semi Finals. We got many nice compliments from the judges but we did not make it through to the Final.
Shortly after The Semi Finals John Buggy (who runs the KDYS Live Music) asked us if we would be one of 3 bands to play on the 22nd of August in the Square during the 50th anniversary of the Rose of Tralee festival, we performed with local bands Flatshindig and 2 Day Nation and Publicity Stunt each having half an hour sets.
We played the next few weeks in the KDYS before being asked to open for Scuba Dice with a couple of other local bands in the Syndicate Rooms in the Deacon in Tralee on November 15th.
Shortly after this gig Evolution were asked to play at M-Idol on Decmeber 16th the talent show held by Mercy Mounthawk School in Tralee but on November 22nd we decided to split because of musical difference and random stupid fighting over set lists and such, ending Evolution.
We were told by the organizers that we could not pull out of the gig due to the scheduling so we agreed to play one last gig. The Wednesday before the competition we had a band meeting and decided to get back together permanently and had a band practice later that day and were asked to play the Christmas gig in the KDYS also on Friday night.
At M-Idol that was on that Friday evening Evolution played a cover of White Stripes "Seven Nation Army" and our own song Same Man in front of 400-500 students, We finished first in our category but did not win the overall competition, but we were still delighted so we packed up our stuff and headed to the KDYS to play the Christmas gig in the KDYS that night, it was by no means the most packed gig but definitely one of the most fun gigs we've played. On the 2 of ferbruary 2010,we decided to get ian murphy be lead guitar in the band meaning kieran moves onto lead vox and dusko moves to rythm guitar.
On February 16th, 2010, Dusko Kovac formally left Evolution, due to creative differences. The following day, fellow band member bassist Cormac O' Sullivan left the band for similar reasons.
We are now just back from our Christmas break and looking for any Gigs available to us, we can't wait for the rest of 2010!
