WKD Imports Announce New ‘09 Drift Team

Japanese Import specialists, WKD Imports, today confirmed exciting details about their 2009 drift team. A new two car team made up of Nigel Colfer (IRL) & Johnny Power (IRL) will compete at the top levels of both Irish and International drifting championships for the forthcoming drifting season.

Nigel Colfer returns to 2009 following a strong 2008 season which saw the Wexford drifter compete successfully in both Ireland and the UK. The ex Prodrift Semi Pro Champion enjoyed a successful rookie Pro Season collecting substantial championship points as well as podium finishes across both Irish and European events.

Joining Colfer as part of the WKD team and making an unexpected return to competition is Irish drifting legend Johnny Power. Following his 2nd place in the 2007 Irish Series, power retired from the sport much to the dismay of a huge Irish fan base. Power returns with many years of experience on the international drifting scene. Johnny P has successfully competed in Belgium, France, England & Ireland as part of Prodrift, D1GP, EDC, & GT Battle events.

Details have not yet been released regarding the vehicle line up for 2009 but WKD Imports have promised an improved presence across international paddocks with the addition of team transport units and mobile workshop facilities. Commenting on the news of the 2009 team, WKD Imports owner Wesley Keating said, “Drifting is an important part of the WKD operations and something we take very seriously. The combination of Nigel Colfer & Johnny P for 2009 is an excellent line-up and we are looking forward to getting back into competition, both in Ireland and overseas”.

Prodrift Ireland , New Venues for 09.
Today it has been announced that the Prodrift Ireland Series will incorporate 2 new venues for the 2009 Irish national drifting championship.

Across a 5 round Championship, Prodrift have scheduled a 2009 series that will place top level drifting competitions in 5 separate venues throughout Ireland.

Beginning in Ennis Town, Co.Clare, the Prodrift Series will travel to 3 custom venues during the year whilst also placing events in Ireland’s 2 main motorsport centres, Mondello Park & Nutts Corner Racing Circuit.

The return of Punchestown, Co.Kildare as the venue for Round 2 will immediately appeal to the thousands of drift fans that enjoyed the same event in 2006 and similarly, the 2009 Punchestown event will also include a points scoring round for the new Prodrift Super Series, guaranteeing a strong entry of overseas drivers.

The trip to Nutts Corner for Round 3 of the Irish Series marks the continued growth of the Prodrift brand in Ulster. Following a strong showing from local drivers in 2008, this year’s event will move from the Nutts Corner Oval to the recently re-opened Nutts Corner Circuit and set new challenges for the Prodrift teams.

The penultimate event of the season takes place at the home of Irish Motorsport, Mondello Park, where drivers and spectators can expect the regular instalment of high speed door to door battles. For the final battle of the year, Prodrift will cap off the season at another brand new venue, Cork Marts, Fermoy. This new venue houses an expansive site of asphalt surrounded by an amphitheatre bank that will deliver a unique atmosphere for the final event of the season.

Prodrift expand to create Drifting Super Series.


Today Prodrift have announced a new and exciting schedule for international drifting in 2009.
In addition to the Prodrift Ireland & European Series, Prodrift will introduce a new UK and Ireland championship; The Prodrift Super Series.

Across 5 events staged in both the UK and Ireland, Prodrift, in partnership with the British Drift Championship (BDC), will re-ignite events which have historically seen the most fiercely contested drifting battles in Europe.
The Prodrift Super Series will incorporate a traditional Pro Class Top16 format and accept entries from Prodrift and BDC pro class competitors.
Kicking off on a custom high speed drift circuit at Donnington Park, UK, the Prodrift Super Series will test the abilities of the best UK & Irish drift teams at locations on both sides of the Irish Sea.

Commenting on the launch of the Prodrift Super Series, Prodrift Managing Director Graham McNamara said, “Prodrift have always maintained an open minded approach to collaborations with international drifting organisations and our new partnership with the BDC is without doubt our strongest to date. From the beginnings of European drifting with what was once the D1 IRL Drift Series and the Autoglym UK Drifting championships, Irish and UK competitors have always enjoyed healthy competition. With the new Prodrift Super Series, Prodrift & BDC aim to re-ignite that rivalry and deliver a competition that is rewarding to competitors and teams across what is often a common commercial market for sponsors. The Prodrift Super Series will also offer new Pro Class license holders a first step in international competition, without special invitation or elitism, but based on merit and determination”.

Mark Buckle of BDC echoed McNamara’s sentiments by stating “the BDC has worked hard to earn the trust of the British drifting community and in 2009 will introduce a Pro Class Competition. Our new partnership with Prodrift will ensure that the introduction of a BDC Pro Class License is supported by the experience of the Prodrift team who’s input and assistance will be instrumental. The Prodrift Super Series offers our Pro Class competitors immediate access to battle in what promises to be the most exciting drift competition in the UK or Ireland and a competition that will test the limits of the best BDC drivers”.
